In this study the effects of navel type on properties of (50%-50%) nylon/cotton blend yarn and wrapper formation were investigated and compared with similar ring spun yarn. Rotor spun yarn was produced on a single head laboratory rotor spinning machine with four navels (smooth, spiral, 3 grooved, and 4 grooved) and ring yarn was produced on a zinser 319 ring spinning machine. Test result showed that navel type has a significant effect on yarn strength and strength of smooth navel yarn was maximum. Elongation of a 100% cotton rotor spun yarn is more than similar ring yarn, but it was not observed in cotton/nylon blend. Yarn irregularity and imperfections varied significantly with navel type and for rotor yarns were more than the ring yarn. Navel type had significant effect on yarn hairiness but it didnot have an effect on yarn abrasion significantly.

You are What You Wear: Unless You Moved—Effects of Attire and Posture on Person Perception

Krumhuber, Ursula HessAbstract:While first impressions are often based on appearance cues, little is known about how these interact with information from other channels. The present research aimed to investigate the impact of occupational stereotypes, evoked by attire, as well as posture on person perception. For this, computer animation was used to create avatars with different types of attire (nurse, Military, casual) and posture (open, closed). In Study 1 ( N = 164), participants attributed significantly more empathy to avatars wearing a nurse versus a Military Uniform or casual outfit. When adding posture as an additional cue, Study 2 ( N = 312) showed that ratings of empathy and dominance were affected by both attire and posture. This effect was replicated in Study 3 ( N = 163) for female avatars, in the sense that open postures in nurses increased empathy ratings and decreased dominance ratings, which both in turn led to greater perceived competence. By contrast, for male avatars, posture did not affect attributions of competence directly. Rather, attire predicted perceived dominance directly, as well as through perceived empathy. The present findings suggest that both posture, and occupational information evoked by attire, are used to infer personal characteristics. However, the strength of each cue may vary with the gender of the target.

Journal of Preventive Medicine of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, 2010Co-Authors: L I ChengyiAbstract:Objective To observe the effect of Military clothing treated with permethrin on protection against mosquito,so as to provide the basis for personal protection equipment against mosquito.Methods The effect of protection against mosquito of permethrin treated Military cloths and Military Uniform were investigated under laboratory and field condition.The landing and biting count,and death number of mosquito after 3 times of washing were observed.Results In laboratory,the landing and biting counts of mosquito were decreased by more than 70% on the first day of permethrin treated cloth,the former was obviously increased but the latter was not 3 weeks later.Both landing and biting counts were increased to some extent and the death rate decreased as washing times increased.In the field,the landing count of mosquito on treated Uniform was decreased by about 90% and no biting was observed 2 weeks after treatment.Conclusion Military cloth and Uniform treated with permethrin has certain protection against mosquito within 3 weeks,but washing times may attenuate permethrin effect.
