A novel hardware design paradigm for Mobile 'Software defined radio' terminals

The paper explores the impact of anticipated communication services for future wireless communication systems on the evolution of microelectronics for wireless terminals. A roadmap is presented which predicts the hardware/Software split of future Software defined radio terminals (SDR terminals). Additionally, a new philosophy for analog and digital codesign is introduced, which may help to accelerate the appearance of Mobile Software defined radio terminals.

Security issues must be addressed earlier in the development lifecycle rather than fixing them after the attacks because the damage might already be extensive. Early elimination of possible security vulnerabilities will help us increase the security of our Software and mitigate or reduce the potential damages through data losses or service disruptions caused by malicious attacks. However, many Software developers lack necessary security knowledge and skills required at the development stage, and Secure Mobile Software Development (SMSD) is not yet well represented in academia and industry. In this paper, we present a static analysis-based security analysis approach through design and implementation of a plugin for Android Development Studio, namely DroidPatrol. The proposed plugins can support developers by providing list of potential vulnerabilities early.

Mobile apps flaws and security defects open doors for hackers to break in and access sensitive information. Defensive requirements analysis should be an integral part of secure Mobile SDLC. Developers need to consider the information confidentiality and data integrity, to verify the security early in the development lifecycle rather than fixing the security holes after attacking and data leaks take place. Early eliminating known security vulnerabilities will help developers increase the security of apps and reduce the likelihood of exploitation. However, many Software developers lack the necessary security knowledge and skills at the development stage, and that's why Secure Mobile Software Development education is very necessary for Mobile Software engineers. In this paper, we propose a guided security requirement analysis based on OWASP Mobile Top ten security risk recommendations for Android Mobile Software development and its traceability of the developmental controls in SDLC. Building secure apps immune to the OWASP Mobile Top ten risks would be an effective approach to provide very useful Mobile security guidelines.

We categorized the common Mobile vulnerability for developers based on OWASP Mobile security recommendations and developed detectors to meet the SMSD needs in industry and education.

In this poster, we present an innovative authentic learning approach for SMSD through real-world-scenario case studies. The primary goal of this learning approach is to create an engaging and motivating learning environment that encourages students in learning emerging security concepts and practices such as Mobile Software developments. It provides students with hands-on laboratory practices on real-world Mobile app developments and security. Each module consists of a series of progressive sub-labs: a pre-lab, lab activities, and a student add-on post-lab. The preliminary feedback from students is positive. Students have gained hands-on real world experiences on Mobile security with Android Mobile devices, which also greatly promoted students' self-efficacy and confidences in their Mobile security learning.

Exploiting Repositories in Mobile Software Ecosystems from a Governance Perspective
Information Systems Frontiers, 2019Co-Authors: Awdren De Lima Fontão, Rodrigo Pereira Santos, Arilo Claudio Dias-netoAbstract:Software organizations that maintain Mobile platforms (e.g. Apple, Google, and Microsoft) open their infrastructure to attract and engage external developers to meet the demands of users. This scenario has been investigated as Mobile Software Ecosystem (MSECO). In MSECO, an organization provides content reuse repositories where users can search, download and evaluate apps, or where developers can get support materials. Such repositories are commonly inspired by reuse mechanisms and help an organization to control and evolve the whole ecosystem to keep it vibrant. In this scenario, it is important to understand how to govern MSECO as well as how reuse mechanisms can support this goal. As such, we investigated governance strategies that emerge from content reuse repositories based on four steps: (1) designing a governance process; (2) performing an initial evaluation of this process with managers who are experts in the main existing MSECO (Apple, Google, Nokia, Microsoft, and Samsung); (3) interviewing 18 MSECO managers to collect opinion about the process; and (4) conducting an exploratory analysis of the MSECO reuse repositories’ structure based on the proposed governance process. Three types of content reuse repositories (Apps’ Store, Developer’s Central, and Apps’ Management) were analyzed. As a result, this research allowed us to define a governance process from a repository perspective containing 11 activities.

In this scenario, it is necessary to evaluate developers' experiences during their involvement in trainings as a strategy to engage developers to contribute to the MSECO expansion (quantitatively and qualitatively). In this paper, we report a study on the comparison of a process-based approach for training Mobile application developers in MSECO against an ad hoc approach (developer's and evangelist's personal processes) to analyze the effect of evangelist-developers interaction in MSECO from Developer experience (DX). We also propose a set of steps to assist keystone organizations to govern developers based on DX sources and with evangelists' support in trainings.

The research intends to investigate a companys health through user reviews about Mobile applications (Apps) and build and present indicators that can identify problems, failures and differences in the quality of the apps to guide the company in the search for "immunization" or "medication" so that it does not become "sick" from the adoption of measures related to the use of indicators for the type of "disease".

In this scenario, there is the involvement of expectations, perceptions and feelings of the developer in his/her interaction with various artifacts and other developers, named, Developer Experience (DX). Studying the factors that influence DX in the context of ecosystems is important for keystones that need mechanisms to keep developers accountable for productivity, robustness, and niche creation. In this paper, we applied the Snowballing methodology and thematic analysis to an initial identification of DX influence factors in MSECO. Eleven papers were analyzed from the viewpoint of Software Ecosystems. Initially, we identified 20 influence factors related to DX. Such factors can help to understand the DX in MSECO.
