  • Exploring the Implications of Gate Location on Weld Lines Based on Moldflow
    Light Industry Machinery, 2007
    Co-Authors: Deng Yi-min
    Abstract:

This paper presents a method to explore the implications of gate location on weld lines. This is achieved by changing the gate location, activating the relevant Moldflow functional modules to carry out the flow analysis, retrieving the weld lines from Moldflow analysis results, and finally, calculating the total length of the weld lines generated from the flow process, all of which are automated by computer programs developed by the authors.By comparing the lengths of the weld lines corresponding to all the gate locations intended by the user or designer, the quantitative implications of gate location on weld lines are thus derived. This offers a valuable guidance or reference to the user or designer,to help them decide the optimal gate location.

  • Injection Moulding Process Design of Thin-walled Plastics Products Based on Moldflow Flow Analysis
    China Plastics Industry, 2005
    Co-Authors: Deng Yi-min
    Abstract:

A Moldflow flow analysis based method for injection moulding process design of thin-walled plastics parts was put forward. The moulding quality of the moulding was broken down into eight constituent criteria in this method, relevant data were retrieved from Moldflow analysis results, and these quality criteria were synthesized by means of weighting method.By analysing about one hundred sets of typical processing parameters, and comparing their synthesized moulding quality results implemented in a computer program, the relatively optimal moulding process parameters were reported in this paper.

  • a method to predict early ejected plastic part air cooling behavior towards quality mold design and less molding cycle time
    Robotics and Computer-integrated Manufacturing, 2019
    Co-Authors: Junyu Fu
    Abstract:

Abstract It is a common industrial practice to eject injection-molded plastic parts early, at a high temperature, and allow the parts to cool down in the air. This practice shortens the cycle time and reduces production cost. However, current commercial injection molding simulation software tools can only consider the in-mold cooling process. The simulation of the air-cooling stage after ejection is not well supported in such tools even though the air-cooling shrinkage is significant when plastic parts are ejected at high temperatures. The authors propose a Moldflow™-Ansys™ integrated FEA method to simulate the air-cooling process so that the air-cooling shrinkage can be considered at the early design stage and the quality of the part can be ensured with less molding cycle time. A real industrial case study is provided to show the procedure and its validation. The proposed method integrates Moldflow™ and Ansys™ by feeding Moldflow™ simulation results as the intermediate state data set into Ansys™ for air-cooling effect simulation. With a real testing product part ejected at a high temperature, the proposed approach shows promising predictions of the 3D warpage displacement. In this way, the cost factor of molding cycle time can be considered at the mold design stage and a cost-effective design can be developed.

  • Design and Simulation of Injection Mold for the Digital Camera Shell Based on Moldflow
    Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
Co-Authors: Ning Jiang, Chuan Yang Wang
    Abstract:

The camera shell is analyzed by using Finit Element Method (FEM) to judge reliability of the structure. Static structural and explicit dynamics analysis are conducted. The results provide valuable reference for the structural optimization design. Three schemes for injection mold are developed. Injection moulding process of the shell is simulated by applying Moldflow. The volumetric shrinkage, shrink mark index, total deformation, fill time and clamping force are analyzed. The results show that combining Moldflow with FEM method can not only shorten the construction period, but also ensure the molding quality.

  • Optimization of thin-wall plastics injection molding technology based on Moldflow
Journal of Zhejiang University of Technology, 2008
    Co-Authors: Jin Jie
    Abstract:

Thin-wall injection molding process of injected part is simulated under various technological conditions by utilizing analysis software of Moldflow and Taguchi optimization technique.Firstly,L27 orthogonal array is conducted to gain the injection time by utilizing four process parameters such as mold temperature, melt temperature, injection pressure, and material flow rate.Secondly,L9 orthogonal array is conducted to investigate the each process parameters(injection time, packing pressure, packing pressure time, cooling time) in order to get the values of warpage and shrinkage. The signal-to-noise(S/N) and the analysis of variance(ANOVA) are used to find the optimal levels and gain the best process parameters. Then the optimal value of warpage and maximal value of shrinkage can be predicted. Finally, the optimization of thin-wall plastics injection molding technology based on Moldflow is validated.
