  • Neper jednostka miary ukladu si
    Telekomunikacja i Techniki Informacyjne, 2000
    Co-Authors: J Dudziewicz
    Abstract:

Przedstawiono tendencje panujące w Miedzynarodowym Biurze Miar (BIPM Bureau international des poids et mesures), dotyczące stosowania jednostek miar logarytmicznych Nepera i bela.

  • Neper: a multiple strategy wheat expert system
Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2003
Co-Authors: Soliman A. Edrees, Ahmed Rafea, Ibrahim Fathy, Mohamed Yahia
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper presents a methodology for developing a strategic Expert System for wheat crop production, which has been developed using a Multiple Design approach. This Expert System consists of six subsystems; namely, variety selection, land preparation, sowing, irrigation, fertilization, and harvest. These subsystems exchange data between them through a common database. Each subsystem advises wheat growers on the corresponding plan(s), comprising a set of agricultural/chemical operations before or during the growing season. Applying an appropriate plan reduces risk to farmers from having a problem during the growing season. The system was verified, validated, and, tested in the field. Beneficial economic and environmental impacts have been demonstrated.

  • The Evaluation and Impact of Neper Wheat Expert System
    IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2001
    Co-Authors: Ahmed Rafea, Mostafa Mahmoud
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper presents the laboratory and field evalation results of Neper Wheat expert system. The laboratory evaluation showed that Neper performance is comparable with human experts. Field evaluation has revealed that Neper has good economic and environmental impacts. The field testing results have also shown that Neper is usable, applicable and needed.

  • Neper Wheat: An Integrated Architecture for Irrigated Wheat Crop Management
    IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1995
Co-Authors: Ahmed Kamel, Ahmed Rafea, Kris Schroeder, Eman El-sheikh, Jon Sticklen, Richard W. Ward, Joe T. Ritchie, Urs Schulthess, A. Salah
    Abstract:

Abstract In this report, we discuss the development of an integrated system for irrigated wheat crop management in Egypt. The goal of our work is to develop a system that will address the various aspects of crop management including varietal selection, planting/harvest date selection, sowing parameters decisions, insect/disease/weed identification and remediation, irrigation/fertilization management and harvest management. The approach we take to solve this problem is the Generic Task Approach to expert systems development pioneered by Chandrasekaran et al. By using the Generic Task (GT) approach, we set out to model the behavior of an expert in wheat crop management. Previous research in the Generic Task approach has typically focused on the application of a single generic task problem solver to solve a particular problem. However, as a multi-task problem, wheat crop management calls for the cooperation of multiple problem solvers, each tackling a portion of the larger problem. Thus, wheat crop management provides a testbed for the idea of integrating multiple generic tasks together with the numeric simulation capabilities of CERES Wheat pioneered by Ritchie et al. We use the Knowledge Level Architecture proposed by Sticklen as the template by which we will organize our system.

  • Newer antifungal agents.
    Current Opinion in Pediatrics, 2013
Co-Authors: Beatriz Larru, Theoklis E. Zaoutis
    Abstract:

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: In recent years there has been an evolution of a better understanding of the pharmacology and clinical indications of existing antifungal agents and also the development of new broad-spectrum triazoles and a newer class of antifungal agents, the echinocandins. The availability of these agents has broadened the therapeutic options of invasive fungal disease among children and consequently antifungal therapy has become increasingly complex. RECENT FINDINGS: Adoption of adult guidelines' recommendations has been used to guide pediatric treatment as specific pediatric data were often lacking. This approach has not always selected the most appropriate therapy for newborns or young infants, as the under-dosage of voriconazole based on adult data revealed. Therefore, a detailed understanding of the available antifungal agents in children is crucial for the successful treatment of these serious infections. SUMMARY: In this review we summarize the main findings regarding antifungal treatment among children that have been recently published, focusing on the pharmacology and pediatric use of newer antifungal agents.

  • Newer antifungal agents.
Expert Review of Anti-infective Therapy, 2011
    Co-Authors: Özden Türel
    Abstract:

The frequency and spectrum of fungal infections have been increasing steadily over the last several decades. The reason for this increase may be explained by the increase in the number of immunocompromised patients due to malignancies, AIDS, invasive surgical procedures and transplantation. In parallel with this increase, several therapeutic options have become available but problems such as intrinsic or acquired antifungal resistance have led researchers to develop new antifungal drugs with expanded effectiveness. Reduced toxicity, enhancement of bioavailability and counteraction of resistance are features desired by clinicians. The aim of this article is to summarize the studies involving isavuconazole, ravuconazole, albaconazole, aminocandin and some other investigational antifungal agents. Most data on the clinical use of ravuconazole, isavuconazole and albaconazole are mainly available as meeting abstracts or limited to animal studies or Phase I/II studies in humans. These new antifungal agents in de...
