Design and Implementation of Security Network Adapter Based on SOPC
Computer Engineering, 2008Co-Authors: Tang Liu-chunAbstract:Most of the LAN security measures concern how to prevent attacks of outer Network, while less attention is paid to the security of inner local Network. To enhance the security of inner local Network’s data transmission, security Network Adapter based on SOPC technology is designed and also implemented. In the design, the DES algorithm and LAN protocol self-define which are the key technology to enhance the security of data transmission are used. The test result shows that the Adapter is convenient, effective and easy to reuse, and it also works well in real LAN environment.

The purpose of this design is to avoid the isolated information island in an industrial system, and allow devices with different types of communication protocol to form one industrial Network. It has realized by hardware and software. On the hardware side, the device is composed of MCU, power supply module, two rs232 communication modules, one rs485 communication module, two ethernet communication modules and the watchdog. On the software side, the Adapter integrates the protocols of Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, rs232 transparent transmission, rs485 transparent transmission, TCP server transparent transmission, TCP client transparent transmission and UDP transparent transmission. Because the device has realized the calibration algorithm, it can control rs232-HART protocol converter to achieve interconnection of the HART equipment. One of the rs232 port is used to interconnection of a wireless communication module. The wireless communication module is designed by ourselves, the wireless modules can automatically form a Network of each other and communication with the host. Now the multifunctional industrial wireless Network Adapter has been tested and verified that it can make multiple equipments with different communication protocols form one Network and works steadily.

NCA - Improving Transaction Server Performance under Heavy Loads with Differentiated Service and Active Network Interfaces

GhoseAbstract:Transaction based Web services that demand realtime performance guarantees, such as online auctions, stock trading and real-time database servers generally require a higher level of security and performance compared to normal Web services. To improve server throughput of servers for such applications under heavy loads or under denial of service attacks, it is necessary to service requests differentially, giving preference to on-going or imminent client requests. We show how such facilities can be efficiently implemented on an active Network Adapter based gateway that controls accesses to a pool of backend servers. Using an experimental prototype based around a dual-ported active NIC, we show how a differentiated service policy can be implemented on such a gateway to bound the server response time and to improve server throughputs under heavy loads
