enhanced voltage balancing of a flying capacitor multilevel converter using phase disposition pd modulation
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2011Co-Authors: B P Mcgrath, D G HolmesAbstract:This paper analyses the natural voltage-balancing characteristic of a three-phase flying capacitor multilevel converter when it is operated under the spectrally optimal Phase Disposition (PD) pulsewidth modulation (PWM) strategy. Using this analysis, it is shown that PD PWM has superior balancing characteristics compared to the phase-shifted carrier PWM strategy, because it places more spectral energy into the differential-mode sideband harmonics that drive the voltage-balancing process. From this understanding, an alternative balance booster filter Network Connection is proposed that significantly improves the natural balancing response of a flying capacitor converter for either PWM strategy. The analysis is confirmed by extensive simulation and experimental studies.

Using this analysis, it is shown that PD PWM has superior balancing characteristics compared to the Phase Shifted Carrier (PSC)PWM strategy, because it places more spectral energy into the differential mode sideband harmonics that drive the voltage balancing process. From this understanding, an enhanced balance booster filter Network Connection is proposed that significantly improves the natural balancing response of a flying capacitor converter for either PWM strategy. grid connected or stand alone real time variable speed wind generator emulator associated to a flywheel energy storage system
European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005Co-Authors: Christophe Saudemont, Gabriel Cimuca, Benoit Robyns, M M RadulescuAbstract:The level of penetration increase of dispersed generation in the electrical Networks is a major scientific aim: to increase the possibility to participate in the ancillary services, to determine the influence zone according to the Network Connection point,...etc. The development of experimental test benches is necessary to validate theoretical studies. In this paper, we present a 3 kW test bench, emulating a grid connected or stand-alone real-time variable speed wind generator emulator associated to a flywheel energy storage system

flywheel energy storage system to improve the integration of wind generators into a Network
2003Co-Authors: Ludovic Leclercq, Christophe Saudemont, Gabriel Cimuca, Benoit Robyns, M M RadulescuAbstract:The association of a Variable-Speed Wind Generator (VSWG) and a Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) with the aim to improve the integration of such generators in a Network is studied. A resonant controller-based Network Connection and a fuzzy-logic supervisory are proposed. A 3 kW test bench is described, and a first experiment which validates the principle of the FESS is shown.

remote progressive firmware update for flash based Networked embedded systems
International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design, 2009Co-Authors: P H ChouAbstract:Firmware update over a Network Connection is an essential but expensive feature for many embedded systems due to the relatively high power consumption and limited bandwidth. This work proposes a page-level, link-time technique that minimizes not only the size of patching scripts but also perturbation to the firmware memory, over the entire sequence of updates in the system's lifetime. Experimental results show our technique to reduce the energy consumption of firmware update by 38--42% over the state-of-the-art.

Forensic Analysis of Network Connection in OS Linux
This thesis focuses on forensic analysis of Network Connection in operating systems based on Linux kernel.
