Recommended minimal standards for describing New Taxa of the family Halomonadaceae
International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2007Co-Authors: David R. Arahal, Russell H. Vreeland, Carol D. Litchfield, Melanie R. Mormile, Brian J. Tindall, Aharon Oren, Victoria Béjar, Emilia Quesada, Antonio VentosaAbstract:Following Recommendation 30b of the Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision), a proposal of minimal standards for describing New Taxa within the family Halomonadaceae is presented. An effort has been made to evaluate as many different approaches as possible, not only the most conventional ones, to ensure that a rich polyphasic characterization is given. Comments are given on the advantages of each particular technique. The minimal standards are considered as guidelines for authors to prepare descriptions of novel Taxa. The proposals presented here have been endorsed by the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes Subcommittee on the Taxonomy of Halomonadaceae.

proposed minimal standards for describing New Taxa of aerobic endospore forming bacteria
International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2009Co-Authors: Niall A Logan, Dagmar Fritze, O Berge, A H Bishop, Hansjurgen Busse, Marc Heyndrickx, Peter Kampfer, L Rabinovitch, Mirja Salkinojasalonen, Lucy SeldinAbstract:Minimal standards for describing New Taxa within the aerobic endospore-forming bacteria are proposed, following Recommendation 30b of the Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision). These minimal standards are recommended as guidelines to assist authors in the preparation of descriptions for novel Taxa. They encourage broad polyphasic characterization and the construction of descriptions that are practically useful in routine diagnostic laboratories. The proposals have been endorsed by the Subcommittee on the Taxonomy of the Genus Bacillus and Related Organisms of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes.

proposed minimal standards for describing New Taxa of the family flavobacteriaceae and emended description of the family
International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2002Co-Authors: Jeanfrancois Bernardet, Yasuyoshi Nakagawa, Barry HolmesAbstract:In this paper minimal standards for the description of New genera and cultivable species in the family Flavobacteriaceae are proposed in accordance with Recommendation 30b of the Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision). In addition to specified phenotypic characteristics, the description of New species should be based on DNA-DNA hybridization data, and the placement of New Taxa should be consistent with phylogenetic data derived from 16S rRNA sequencing. An emended description of the family is also proposed as several New Taxa have been described since 1996. These proposals have been endorsed by the members of the Subcommittee on the taxonomy of Flavobacterium and Cytophaga-like bacteria of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes.
