  • Production monétaire et stratégies d’approvisionnement de l’argent en Occident nord-méditerranéen (iie-ier siècle av. n. è.)
Mélanges de la Casa de Velázquez, 2018
    Co-Authors: Parisot-sillon Charles, Sarah Guillaume
    Abstract:

Este artículo pone particularmente de relieve la diversidad de la procedencia del metal utilizado en las cecas ibéricas y las etapas sucesivas del abastecimiento de la ceca de Roma a lo largo de los dos últimos siglos a.C.Coining was one of the main and most widely-known uses of silver in the north of the western Mediterranean, and hence numismatic sources seem particularly appropriate to characterise the use to which precious metals were put in that region. The numismatic and archaeometric study of the most important western coinages identifies firstly the geography of these supply circuits, and secondly the economic strategies and modes of production followed at the mints. • rethinking Numismatics the archaeology of coins
    Archaeological Dialogues, 2011
    Co-Authors: Fleur Kemmers, Nanouschka Myrberg
    Abstract:

This paper sets out to re-member coins into archaeological discourse. It is argued that coins, as part of material culture, need to be examined within the theoretical framework of historical archaeology and material-culture studies. Through several case studies we demonstrate how coins, through their integration of text, image and existence as material objects, offer profound insights not only into matters of economy and the ‘big history’ of issuers and state organization but also into ‘small histories’, cultural values and the agency of humans and objects. In the formative period of archaeology in the 19th century the study of coins played an important role in the development of new methods and concepts. Today, Numismatics is viewed as a field apart. The mutual benefits of our approach to the fields of archaeology and Numismatics highlight the need for a new and constructive dialogue between the disciplines.

  • history of orthopedics in the mirror of Numismatics
    Trauma, 2020
    Co-Authors: O V Syniachenko, S M Verzilov, Yu T Syniachenko, V G Klymovytsky, M V Yermolaeva, K V Liventsova
    Abstract:

The purpose of the work was to analyze the history of orthopedics using numismatic materials. The branch of historical science of Numismatics (from the Latin numisma — coin) originated in the 19th century and became closely connected with economics, politics, culture and law; it includes a thematic study of coins, medals and plaques. Best of all, the history of orthopedics is illustrated by the various forms of the medallic educational art (exonumia, or paraNumismatics), and the medal became the prototype of the commemorative coin. This work presents a catalogue of 95 numismatic materials (including some unique one, first cited), reflects the stages of development of the study of using treating factors, provides links to significant historical events, refers to brief biographies of physicians who have made an invaluable contribution into the formation of this scientific discipline.

Best of all, the history of infectology is illustrated by various forms of the medalist educational art (exonumia, or paraNumismatics), and the coin became the prototype of the memorial medals. This work presents a catalog of 64 numismatic materials (including some unique, first cited), reflects the stages of development of the study of infectious diseases, methods for diagnosing and treating them; there are links to significant historical events; brief biographies of physicians who have made an invaluable contribution into the formation of this scientific discipline are mentioned.

  • history of arthrology in the mirror of Numismatics
    PAIN JOINTS SPINE, 2020
    Co-Authors: O V Syniachenko, V M Iermolaeva, S M Verzilov, K V Liventsova, Yu T Syniachenko, S F Verzilova
    Abstract:

The main goal was to analyze the history of arthrology using numismatic materials. The Numismatics (from the Latin "numisma" – coin), a branch of historical science, that was originated in the 19th century and closely related to economics, politics, culture and law, which includes the study of coins, medals and plaques. The history of arthrology is best illustrated by various forms of medal art (exonum or paranumism), and the medal became the prototype of a commemorative (memorial) coin. This work presents a catalog of 157 numismatic materials (138 medals, 15 plaques, 4 coins), including some unique ones, presented for the first time, the stages of development of the study of the use of therapeutic factors were reflected, there are references to significant historical events, brief biographies of physicians (62 persons) were mentioned, who made an invaluable contribution to the formation of this scientific discipline. On the medals, can be found the portraits of the founders of the world arthrology, the ancient Indian doctor Charaka and the ancient Greek physician Aretaeus, as well as the portraits of the Ukrainian doctors – Agapetus of Pechersk, E. YO. Mukhin, O. A. Kysil, D. F. Chebotaryov. The work contains the following sections: "Inception of arthrology", "Structure and function of joints”, "Osteoarthritis", "Gouty arthritis", "Rheumatoid arthritis", "Infectious and infectious-allergic (reactive) arthritis", "Tuberculous arthritis", "Others arthrites". Unfortunately, so far the memory of famous doctors of the past has not been sufficiently marked by the release of numismatic products, so in the future we hope for a systematic approach to this matter, for the purposeful promotion of the achievements of rheumatology by means of numismatics, which provides an illustrative example for studying the history of arthrology, contributes to an increase in the level of education of doctors. Аuthors look forward to the appearance of new and interesting materials of such small forms of art.

  • potentialities of x ray fluorescence analysis in Numismatics the case study of pre roman coins from cisalpine gaul
    Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences, 2018
Co-Authors: Jacopo Corsi, Lo A Giudice, Angelo Agostino, F Barello
    Abstract:

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a well-known technique for the analysis of ancient metals. Thanks to the availability of portable instruments (p-XRF), it is extensively used for the chemical characterization of coins directly in museums. In this work, the potentialities of the technique have been investigated, through its application to a case study concerning the Cisalpine Gaul coinage. More than 200 drachmas have been analysed to discriminate different productions on the base of minor elements. Major elements, on the other hand, have been used to trace alloy changes through the centuries. As concerns the quantification of the silver content (fineness), XRF and neutron diffraction results have been compared, in order to check the presence of surface-enriched layers.
