  • Oblique Incidence performance of radar absorbing honeycombs
    Composites Part B: Engineering, 2016
Co-Authors: Jiang Feng, Yichen Zhang, Peng Wang, Hualin Fan
    Abstract:

Abstract Coated with carbon powder based absorbing material, the hexagonal honeycomb (HH) becomes a multifunctional structural material, possessing load-carrying and radar-absorbing abilities. The microwave absorbing behavior changes with the density and the thickness of the HH. Under Oblique Incidence, the radar absorbing hexagonal honeycomb (RAHH) still has excellent microwave absorbing ability. Under wide-angle Oblique Incidence where the Oblique angle is 55°, the RAHHs lose their radar absorbing ability and become radar reflective structure. Through the research the RAHHs have the capabilities of load bearing and electromagnetic energy absorbing, but the Oblique incident angle must be limited within 45°.

  • Theoretical analysis of wavefront aberration from treatment decentration with Oblique Incidence after conventional laser refractive surgery
    Optics Express, 2010
Co-Authors: Fang Lihua, He Xingdao, Chen Fengying
    Abstract:

Analysis of induced wavefront aberration after refractive surgery is important in the design of vision correction and the development of visual correction technology. Based on a mathematical model of the anterior corneal surface, the influence of treatment decentration on induced wavefront aberrations was studied by considering Oblique Incidence. The results revealed that significant coma was induced from the treatment translation, and it was nearly proportional to the translation or corrected refraction of vision correction. The induced aberrations from the lateral translation correlated with the angle formed by the position vector and the astigmatism axis of myopia astigmatism correction. The induced spherical aberration did not relate to a lateral translation of the center of the pupil, but was determined only by the corrected refraction. Additionally, no significant higher-order aberrations were induced from eye cyclotorsion for pure myopia or myopia astigmatism correction. Oblique Incidence played an important role in the impact of treatment decentration on the induced aberrations in refractive surgery. The induced coma without considering the Oblique Incidence was obviously larger than that with it. In order to achieve the best postoperative visual performance, the effect of Oblique Incidence in refractive surgery should be taken into account, and treatment decentration should be minimized by all means, particularly for high myopia.

  • A Seismic Wave Oblique Incidence Method and the Application in Gravity DAM Seismic Research
Journal of Earthquake and Tsunami, 2014
Co-Authors: Li Chen, Liao Jun Zhang
    Abstract:

The Incidence of seismic wave is generally assumed to be vertical in seismic analysis of large-scale hydraulic structures, but during some near-field earthquakes, the direction of seismic waves is at certain angle to the ground. The non-uniform motion produced by Oblique Incidence can significantly affect the structures. In this paper, based on the theories of wave motion an Oblique P-wave and SV-wave Incidence method based on viscous-spring boundary was introduced into finite element analysis, which can accurately simulate the Incidence at different Oblique angles. Then the proposed method was applied in seismic analysis of a gravity dam located in southwest China. The seismic responses under Oblique Incidence of P-wave and SV-wave at different Oblique angles were discussed. The results indicated that the seismic response was obviously influenced by the Oblique Incidence, and the traditional vertical Incidence was unsuitable for some near-field earthquakes. The Oblique Incidence should be considered in the seismic analysis of high dams as well as other large-scale water-retaining structures located in seismic regions.

  • Seismic Response of Gravity Dam under Oblique Incidence of Seismic Waves
    Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Co-Authors: Li Chen, Liao Jun Zhang
    Abstract:

The selection of proper seismic input is essential for seismic response analysis of the gravity dam structures. For the near-field earthquakes, the direction of seismic waves is not always considered as vertical. The non-uniform motion produced by Oblique Incidence can cause significant influence to the structure. In this study, the Obliquely incident method is applied in the finite element model of a typical section of a gravity dam located in southwestern China. The seismic response under Obliquely incident of plane P wave and plane SV with different incident angles and tilt directions are discussed. The results show that the Oblique Incidence has an obvious effect on the seismic response of the gravity dam, and the inconsistence produced by Oblique Incidence cannot be neglected.
