2010Co-Authors: Taehyeon Kim, Laeyoung Kim, Hyunsook KimAbstract:Disclosed is a method of controlling connection establishment in a server in charge of the control plane within a mobile communication network. The method of controlling connection establishment may include receiving a connection request message including a parameter indicating an identifier of a local gateway from a base station. The connection request message may include an access request message by the UE. The method of controlling connection establishment may further include determining whether a bearer for the UE is set to a path through nodes within the mobile communication network or set to a path through nodes within another wired network accessible by the local gateway by considering at least one of QoS, subscriber information for the UE, Operator Policy if the connection request message is received. If it is set to a path through nodes within the another wired network, the method of controlling connection establishment may further include transmitting a connection response message including a parameter indicating whether the bearer has been set or should be set to a path through nodes within the another wired network and an address of the local gateway to the base station.

Best Operator Policy in a heterogeneous wireless network

We investigate the ability of the Operator to express his strategy and influence the access selection for his client. In this purpose, we study two important coefficients of the previously proposed cost function, Wu and Wop, and show that the value of these coefficients is not arbitrary. Simulation results show that the value of the ratio Wu/Wop enables a selection decision respecting Operator's strategy and it affects the achieved global profit for all cooperating Operators.

In this paper, we consider the LTE QoS model framework and try to optimize the Operator Policy with regard to the radio use efficiency. Our objective is to propose a link between the PCRF (Policy Charging and Rules Function) decisions and the radio situation as an evolution for the LTE standard. We define a central database for the access network radio information that can be used for the Operator Policy choices. In this paper, we concentrate on the voice service, as a first step. Simple computations are provided. We show that our contribution can lead to a greater user average quality without loss of capacity. Other important openings are highlighted, promising interesting radio efficiency gains.

Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2008Co-Authors: Brenna D Argall, Brett Browning, Manuela VelosoAbstract:As robots become more commonplace within society, the need for tools to enable non-robotics-experts to develop control algorithms, or policies, will increase. Learning from demonstration (LfD) offers one promising approach, where the robot learns a Policy from teacher task executions. Our interests lie with robot motion control policies which map world observations to continuous low-level actions. In this work, we introduce advice-Operator Policy improvement (A-OPI) as a novel approach for improving policies within LfD. Two distinguishing characteristics of the A-OPI algorithm are data source and continuous state-action space. Within LfD, more example data can improve a Policy. In A-OPI, new data is synthesized from a student execution and teacher advice. By contrast, typical demonstration approaches provide the learner with exclusively teacher executions. A-OPI is effective within continuous state-action spaces because high level human advice is translated into continuous-valued corrections on the student execution. This work presents a first implementation of the A-OPI algorithm, validated on a Segway RMP robot performing a spatial positioning task. A-OPI is found to improve task performance, both in success and accuracy. Furthermore, performance is shown to be similar or superior to the typical exclusively teacher demonstrations approach.

a markov decision process based service migration procedure for follow me cloud
International Conference on Communications, 2014Co-Authors: Adlen Ksentini, Tarik Taleb, Min ChenAbstract:The Follow-Me Cloud (FMC) concept enables service mobility across federated data centers (DCs). Following the mobility of a mobile user, the service located in a given DC is migrated each time an optimal DC is detected. The detailed criterion for optimality is defined by Operator Policy, but it may be typically derived from geographical proximity or load. Service migration may be an expensive operation given the incurred cost in terms of signaling messages and data transferred between DCs. Decision on service migration defines therefore a tradeoff between cost and user perceived quality. In this paper, we address this tradeoff by modeling the service migration procedure using a Markov Decision Process (MDP). The aim is to formulate a decision Policy that determines whether to migrate a service or not when the concerned User Equipment (UE) is at a certain distance from the source DC. We numerically formulate the decision policies and compare the proposed approach against the baseline counterpart.
