Reconfigurable integrated Optical Circulator
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2016Co-Authors: Duanni Huang, Yuya Shoji, Tetsuya Mizumoto, Paolo Pintus, Chong Zhang, John E. BowersAbstract:We demonstrate an integrated four-port Optical Circulator on silicon with 12dB isolation ratio. By locally switching the direction of the magnetic field on chip, we can dynamically reconfigure or shut off the circulation.

Demonstration of a Silicon Waveguide Optical Circulator
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2013Co-Authors: Kota Mitsuya, Yuya Shoji, Tetsuya MizumotoAbstract:A four-port Optical Circulator based on a Mach–Zehnder interferometer is fabricated in a silicon nanowire waveguide. A magneto-Optical garnet is directly bonded to the silicon waveguide using a surface activated bonding technique. Four-port Circulator operation is demonstrated with a maximum isolation of 15.3 dB at a wavelength of 1531 nm.

adhesively bonded ce yig soi integrated Optical Circulator
Optics Letters, 2013Co-Authors: Samir Ghosh, Tetsuya Mizumoto, Shahram Keyvaninia, Wim Van Roy, Gunther Roelkens, Roel BaetsAbstract:A classical 3-port Optical Circulator is demonstrated on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform. A garnet die with a magneto-Optical cerium-doped yttrium iron garnet (Ce:YIG) layer is bonded on top of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer circuit using a thin adhesive bonding layer. The power transmission between different ports is characterized in the presence of an external magnetic field, transversal to the light propagation direction. An isolation of 22 dB is measured at a wavelength of 1562 nm.

OECC/PSC - Design of Six-port Optical Circulator with a Small Aperture of Faraday Rotator
2019 24th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference (OECC) and 2019 International Conference on Photonics in Switching and Computing (PSC), 2019Co-Authors: Jing-heng Chen, Kun-huang Chen, Yih-suan TsengAbstract:A newly designed six-port Optical Circulator with a small aperture of Faraday Rotator is proposed. To verify the feasibility, a prototype was assembled and tested. This design should have an application potential in related applications.

Holographic-type four-port Optical Circulator with a small-aperture Faraday rotator window
2014 OptoElectronics and Communication Conference and Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology, 2014Co-Authors: Kun-huang Chen, Jing-heng ChenAbstract:An improved holographic-type four-port Optical Circulator is proposed with a small-aperture Faraday rotator window. Its prototype was assembled with insertion losses of 2.12-2.19 dB, isolations of 11.91-47.91 dB, and return losses of 14.26 dB.

Optimized design of multiport Optical Circulator
Optik, 2014Co-Authors: Fan Hsi Hsu, Jing-heng Chen, Kun-huang Chen, Chien-hung Yeh, Ken Yuh HsuAbstract:a b s t r a c t This research proposes a practical multiport Optical Circulator design by using polarizing beam splitter cubes as spatial walk-off polarizers. The use of Porro prisms for directing light requires fewer components and improves space-efficiency. Therefore, a high performance device can be produced at a reduced cost. A six-port Optical Circulator prototype was fabricated to show the feasibility of the proposed design. The insertion losses range between 0.52 and 1.05 dB, the isolations range between 26.20 and 45.13 dB, and the return losses are 27.72 dB. The benefits of this design's simple and symmetrical structure include cost- efficiency, simple fabrication processes, polarization-independence, the resolve of polarization-mode dispersion issues, and high performance. Additionally, the number of ports can be increased easily. © 2014 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

Simplified Design of Multiport Optical Circulator With Parallel Connection of Mirror-Image Arranged Spatial- and Polarization-Modules
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011Co-Authors: Jing-heng Chen, Kun-huang Chen, Wen-pin HuangAbstract:This letter proposes a simplified design of multiport Optical Circulator with parallel connection of mirror-image arranged spatial- and polarization-modules. To show the feasibility of the design, a prototype of six-port Optical Circulator was fabricated. The insertion losses are 0.51-1.05 dB, the isolations are 26.20-45.13 dB, and return losses are 27.72 dB. This design should bear merits of a simple and symmetric structure that is low cost, easily fabricated, polarization-independent, and polarization-mode dispersion resolved, and exhibits high performance.
