  • Modeling and Analyzing a Joint Optimization Policy of Block-Replacement and Spare Inventory With Random-Leadtime
    IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 2008
Co-Authors: Runqing Huang, Lingling Meng, Lifeng Xi
    Abstract:

We consider a generalized joint Optimization Policy of block replacement & periodic review spare inventory with random lead time. According to the relationship between geometric area in the graph of inventory level over time, and holding or shortage costs, a model analyzing four mutually exclusive & exhaustive possibilities is developed for the expected average cost per unit time, and is based on the stochastic behavior of the assumed system. The model reflects the cost of inventory holding, spare shortage, replacement, and ordering. And for the first time known to the authors, we deliver the sufficient and necessary conditions of the existence and uniqueness of the minimum in the joint models of this type. Because the model and its analysis are general, one existing result is shown to be subsumed by this model with some modifications. Some numerical cases verify the deduction, and give a general searching solution procedure. Finally, we introduce some discussions related to the models. The models mentioned in the paper can be readily applied in many fields such as economical fields, financial engineering, armament administration, and even medical fields, with some modifications. And the mathematical deduction in the paper will be a guideline for analyzing related stochastic models.

  • energy aware broadcast multiuser mimo precoder design with imperfect channel and battery knowledge
IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2014
    Co-Authors: Javier Rubio, Antonio Pascualiserte
    Abstract:

This paper addresses the problem of resource allocation and precoder design in a multiuser MIMO broadcast system where the terminals are battery-powered devices provided with energy harvesting capabilities. Energy harvesting is a promising technology based on which it is possible to recharge the battery of the terminals using energy collected from the environment. Models for the power consumption of the front-end and decoding stages are discussed and included in the design of the proposed scheme. In addition, the information concerning the battery level plays an explicit role and has an impact on the design of our proposed allocation strategy. Sum-rate maximization is considered as Optimization Policy and energy-related constraints are taken into account explicitly in the resource allocation in order to increase the lifetime of the batteries. In the first part of the paper, we consider the transmitter to have perfect channel state information (CSI) and battery knowledge, assuming an ideal feedback link. Then, a robust design based on imperfect channel information at the transmitter is studied and its effect on the energy consumed by the terminals is analyzed. Finally, an extended robust approach considering also imperfect battery knowledge (quantized battery status) at the transmitter is also addressed. Simulation results show that our proposed technique not only improves the usage of the batteries when compared with other traditional allocation policies, but also enhances the average data rate.

  • adaptive output regulation via nonlinear luenberger observer based internal models and continuous time identifiers
    Automatica, 2020
Co-Authors: Pauline Bernard, Michelangelo Bin, Lorenzo Marconi
    Abstract:

Abstract In Marconi et al. (2007), the theory of nonlinear Luenberger observers was exploited to prove that a solution to the asymptotic output regulation problem for minimum-phase normal forms always exists. The paper provided an existence result and a very general regulator structure, although unfortunately, no constructive method was given to design all the degrees of freedom of the regulator. In this paper, we complete this design by introducing an adaptive unit tuning the regulator online by employing system identification algorithms selecting the “best” parameters according to a certain Optimization Policy. Instead of focusing on a single identification scheme, we give general conditions under which an algorithm may be used in the framework, and we develop a particular least-squares identifier satisfying these requirements. Closed-loop stability results are given, and it is shown that the asymptotic regulation error is related to the prediction capabilities of the identifier evaluated along the ideal error-zeroing steady-state trajectories.
