Supervisory control of a multi-echelon supply chain: A modular Petri net approach for inter-Organizational control
Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, 2008Co-Authors: Julie Drzymalski, Nicholas G. OdreyAbstract:Petri nets (PNs) are frequently utilized to model system dynamics due to their ability to handle concurrencies and sequential dependence. In this paper, a portion of the supply chain operations reference (SCOR) model has been extracted and modeled using PNs for the purpose of exerting supervisory control upon a multi-echelon supply chain (SC). The activities of source, make and deliver, inherent in the SCOR model form the basis of the representation of the PN model for each echelon considered in the SC model. Two control nets are utilized: one above the base model of each echelon to exert local constraints and an enterprise level supply chain manager (SCM). The local constraints are at the tactical and operational levels while the SCM enforces additional constraints consisting of long term planning goals at the strategic level. Place invariants are used to create the supervisors. Performance measures of the total SC are formulated to determine the effectiveness of any partnership. An efficient method for finding the current state of the system is developed which is used to determine the performance measures of each echelon. This paper presents a modular approach to the overall structure and PN modeling for a SC system. It is intended to extend the use of supervisory control from a shop-floor level to an inter-Organizational Facility and enterprise level.

Aptitude of the Programme Coordinators of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of India
Indian Research Journal of Extension Education, 2011Co-Authors: M. ChauhanAbstract:The study was carried out selecting a random sample of 160 Programme Coordinators of five years old KVKs of all the eight zones of India The study reveals that more than half of the programme coordinators of KVKs had high level of planning, communicating, leading, supervising and coordinating ability. Majority of them had medium to high level of organizing capacity, ability of directing their subordinates, and capacity to maintain human relations. Overall extension management ability of them (68%) is found at medium level. The personal variables of programme coordinators such as young age, higher education, well health and rural native place; Organizational variables like conducive Organizational climate, Organizational Facility and interpersonal communication; sociopsychological variables like extrovert personality, positive attitudes towards extension work and low level of job stress played significant role on their extension management ability. The positive attitude towards extension work, extrovert personality and favourable Organizational climate together accounted 55.70 per cent variation in extension management ability of the programme coordinators of KVKs.

Managerial ability of the Programme Coordinators of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of India
Journal of Progressive Agriculture, 2011Co-Authors: N.m. Chauhan, N.b. ChauhanAbstract:The study was carried out selecting a random sample of 160 Programme Coordinators of five years old KVKs of all the eight zones of India with full-fledged activities in the service of farmers. The Ex-Post-Facto Research Design was used for this study. The data were collected through mail questionnaire as well as interview schedules either by contacting through post or personal contacts. The suitable statistical tools were used to analyze data. The study reveals that slightly more than half of the programme coordinators of KVKs had high level of planning ability (51.25 per cent), majority of them had medium to high level of organizing capacity (85.00 per cent), high level of ability of directing their subordinates (76.87 per cent), high level of ability of communicating (58.13 per cent), medium to high level of capacity to maintain human relations (91.87 per cent), high level of lead taking behavior (61.88 per cent), high level of supervising ability (71.26 per cent), high level of coordinating ability (62.50 per cent) and medium level of overall extension management ability (68.12 per cent), whereas slightly less than half of the programme coordinators had high level of decision making capacity (45.00 per cent) and high level of controlling power (48.12 per cent). The personal variables of programme coordinators of KVKs such as; young age, higher education, vigorous status of health and rural native place, while Organizational variables like; conducive Organizational climate, needed Organizational Facility and better interpersonal communication, whereas socio-psychological variables for instance; extrovert personality and positive attitudes towards extension work and low level of job stress played significant role on their extension management ability. The positive attitude towards extension work, extrovert personality and favourable Organizational climate together accounted 55.70 per cent variation in extension management ability of the programme coordinators of KVKs.
