Gaining Adequate Interdental Space with Elastic Separating Rings against Implants: A Case Series

Placing implants in these cases while ignoring the clinical difficulties and compromising treatment could limit the successful outcome. Treatment options include strategic extractions, sectional Orthodontics, and minor Orthodontic movements. Purpose: To discuss the clinical problems and difficulties arising from limited edentulous mesio-distal space interdentally and to present a treatment modality and technique. Materials and Methods: Orthodontic Elastic separating rings are used to open interdental space between teeth and implants, exerting forces against implants for regaining the needed space and restoring implants with ease. Results: The advantages of this technique are illustrated by clinical cases. Conclusions: Implants placed in limited interdental edentulous ridges may well assist in regaining lost spaces after loading. Neither an Orthodontic background nor special instruments are required for this technique.

Sequelae of iatrogenic periodontal destruction associated with Elastics and permanent incisors: literature review and report of 3 cases.
Pediatric dentistry, 2011Co-Authors: Yan-ting Lin, Yu-lan Huang, Shih-hao Chang, Hsiang-hsi HongAbstract:The purpose of this paper was to report 3 cases of localized aggressive periodontal bone destruction related to improper use of Orthodontic Elastic bands to close diastemas in permanent anterior teeth and to compare the results to previous studies. Some common signs and symptoms of this particular destruction were observed with these patients that had been previously reported when the comparisons of these cases were made. The patients usually experienced a painful sensation, and an isolated pyogenic-like granuloma appeared at the interdental area. Radiographs revealed localized periodontal destruction, with tooth extrusion and clinical crown divergence and radiographic root convergence; the two involved teeth moved simultaneously during mobility testing. Surgical intervention and treatment of the cases was described. The prognosis is usually decided by the severity of the condition, and many factors may influence the healing of treated cases.

The Effect of Immersion Time in Three Kinds of Carbonated Beverages on Orthodontic Elastic Latex’s Tensile Strength (In Vitro)

Each group are immersed in artificial saliva (pH7) and stored in incubator (37 °C) for 24hrs for group I and 48hrs for group II. Each treatment groups will be immersed in three different carbonated beverages for 90s per day. Elastics being measured its tensile strength for group I at 24th hour, and 48th hour for group II using tension gauge. The data was tested with two way anova and post hoc Tukey. Results: The result shows immersion time decreases Elastic latex’s tensile strength ( p < 0.05), and carbonated beverages affect Elastic latex’s tensile strength ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: (1) There is a difference of Orthodontic Elastic latex tensile strength in the immersion in carbonated beverages for 24 and 48 hours, (2) there is a difference of Elastic latex tensile strength Orthodontic in the immersion in three kinds of carbonated beverages, and (3) there is interaction between immersion time in carbonated beverages and carbonated beverage brands
