    Purpose: We report the long-term efficacy and safety of percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation with the Urgent® PC Neuromodulation System for Overactive Bladder after 3 years of therapy.Materials and Methods: Fifty participants in the randomized, double-blind SUmiT (Sham Effectiveness in Treatment of Overactive Bladder Symptoms) Trial who met the primary effectiveness end point after 12 weekly percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation treatments were enrolled in this prospective study to assess long-term outcomes with percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation. STEP (Sustained Therapeutic Effects of Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation) Study patients were prescribed a fixed schedule 14-week tapering protocol followed by a personal treatment plan aimed at sustaining Overactive Bladder symptom improvement.     Overactive Bladder (OAB) is a symptom complex of urinary frequency, nocturia and urgency with or without urgency incontinence that adversely impacts patient’s quality of life. Conservative management begins in the outpatient clinic, often with significant improvement and patient satisfaction. In this review we will discuss the evaluation of OAB and review treatment options focusing on behavioral modification, medical therapy, and neuromodulation. These treatment options are offered in a stepwise fashion, remembering that more than one may be needed and can be used concomitantly.

    Purpose: More than 20 million Americans have an Overactive Bladder, the predominant symptoms being frequency, urgency, urge incontinence and pelvic pain. While the etiology is not completely understood, most investigators believe the causes to be many and the pelvic floor to be intimately related. Whatever the etiology, traditional therapies, including dietary manipulation, Bladder drill, medications and physical therapy, are often poorly tolerated and/or ineffective.     Abstract:

    Solifenacin succinate, a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist, is one of the newer options for the treatment of Overactive Bladder in men and women. Objective: To review the pharmacology, efficacy and tolerability for the treatment of Overactive Bladder with solifenacin succinate. Methods: A literature search was done using the keywords YM905 and solifenacin succinate. Conclusion: Solifenacin succinate was shown to be effective for symptom control with an increase in volume voided, improvement in quality of life and a decrease in a common side effect of dry mouth compared to other medications.
