Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Drug Interactions with Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Clinical pharmacokinetics, 1994Co-Authors: Jacobus Brouwers, Peter A. G. M. De SmetAbstract:The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are very commonly prescribed, especially in the elderly population. In many countries more than 10 different NSAIDs are available. As the older pyrazole compounds like phenylbutazone, Oxyphenbutazone and azapropazone are most prone to pharmacokinetic interactions, the use of these compounds should be avoided where possible.

Resin bead detection and spectrophotometric determination of Oxyphenbutazone with p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde: Application to bulk drug and dosage forms.
Talanta, 1993Co-Authors: Ahsan Saeed, Seema Haque, Saidul Zafar QureshiAbstract:Abstract An analytical method for resin bead detection and spectrophotometric determination of Oxyphenbutazone with p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde as a reagent is described. Acid hydrolysed product of Oxyphenbutazone produced a red color product with p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde that absorbs maximally at 520 nm. The detection limit is 0.8 μg in resin phase and 4.0 μg in aqueous phase. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0.4–4.0 μg/ml of Oxyphenbutazone. The method is unaffected by the presence of acetylsalicylic acid, salicylamide, phenylbutazone and number of other excipients but paracetamol gives a positive reaction and novalgin being reductone interferes with the test, both should be removed by extraction with dilute sulfuric acid.

Evaluation of dosage forms. VI. Studies of commercial Oxyphenbutazone tablet dosage forms.
Drug development and industrial pharmacy, 1999Co-Authors: Balkishen Razdan, N. V. NagarajAbstract:Dissolution-dialysis studies of commercial tablets of Oxyphenbutazone were carried out to establish the applicability of this technique for the in vitro evaluation of Oxyphenbutazone dosage form. While disintegration time and dissolution rate studies did not give a true indication of bioavailability, an excellent correlation was obtained between the dialysis rate constant K and the pharmacokinetic parameters AUC and Cmax.
