Co-Authors: Merve Tekce, Gizem Ince, Hare Gursoy, Sebnem Dirikan Ipci, Gokser Cakar, Tanju Kadir, Selcuk Yilmaz
    Abstract:

Aim The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of lozenges containing L. reuteri as an adjuvant treatment to initial periodontal therapy for chronic periodontitis patients and to detect the level of L. reuteri colonization in the periodontal pockets of treated patients. Material and methods A total of 40 patients were selected and randomly divided into two groups. Each patient had at least two teeth with one approximal site each with a probing depth (PD) of 5-7 mm and gingival index (GI) of ≥2 in each quadrant. Group I received scaling and root planing (SRP) plus L. reuteri-containing lozenges, and Group II received SRP plus placebo. The plaque index (PI), GI, bleeding on probing (BoP), PD and relative attachment level were measured. Microbiological sampling was performed at baseline and on days 21, 90, 180 and 360 and were analysed by culturing. The Bonferroni-corrected Paired Sample t-Test, Bonferroni-corrected Wilcoxon signed rank test and Paired Sample t-Test were used to evaluate intra-group differences. The Bonferroni-corrected Student's t-Test and the Mann-Whitney U-tests were used to evaluate inter-group differences. Results After treatment, the measured PI, GI, BoP and PD were significantly (p Conclusion L. reuteri-containing lozenges may be a useful adjuvant agent to slow re-colonization and improve clinical outcomes of chronic periodontitis. Further studies are required to clarify the optimal dose of the lozenges.

    2020
Co-Authors: Rohman Fathur, Dr. Dr. Siti Soekiswati M.hkes
    Abstract:

Osteoarthritis is a heterogeneous condition that leads to joint signs and symptoms. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative and progressive disease that affects two-thirds of people over 65 years of age, with a prevalence of 60.5% in men and 70.5% in women, why is it more likely in women, because it occurs in the menopause phase. Musculosceletal disorders that often occur are joint pain, limited ROM, joint swelling and other signs of inflammatory disorders that can interfere with the functional activity of the sufferer. One way to deal with pain is to use electrotherapy modalities such as TENS. Objective this study to determine the effect of giving Transcutaneus Electrical Nerv Stimulation (TENS) and Post Isometric Relaxation methods in reducing pain in elderly people with genu osteoarthritis. This type of research is a quasy experimental with a two group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study were patients at RSUD Bagas Waras Klaten which were divided into two groups. The treatment group that was given the intervention was TENS with the Post Isometric Relaxation Method and the control group was only given TENS. measurement of pretest and posttest pain in this study using VAS. Normality test uses shapiro-wilk, influence test uses Paired Sample t-Test and different test of influence uses independent Sample t-Test. The results of testing with Paired Sample t-Test found that there was an effect of TENS with Post Isometric Relaxation Method on pain reduction with a value of p = 0.000

  • Pengaruh Pemberian Latihan Quadriceps Setting Terhadap Penurunan Nyeri dan Peningkatan Aktivitas Fungsional Pada Penderita Osteoarthritis Knee
    2020
Co-Authors: Kurniawati, Sany Ayu, Wahyuni, S.fis., Ftr. M.kes
    Abstract:

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease that is chronic and runs progressively slowly, where the overall structure of the joint will undergo pathological changes. Osteoarthritis is characterized by degeneration of the cartilage of the joints and the formation of new bone (osteophytes) at the edges of the joints that cause pain, limited scope of joint motion (LGS), stiffness, and weakness of the muscles in the knee joint. The purpose of this study was to determine the benefits of providing quadriceps setting exercises in reducing pain and increasing functional activity in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. The data collection method uses quasi experimental design with pre and post with control group design. Data collected were tested for normality with Shapiro Wilk. Normal distribution, influence test using Paired Sample t-Test. Normally distributed data were tested for different effects using the independent Sample test. Paired Sample t-Test results obtained p = 0.062 (p> 0.05) in pain and p = 0.084 (p> 0.05) in the functional activity of the control group. The treatment group obtained a value of p = 0,000 (p> 0.05) for pain and a value of p = 0,000 (p> 0.05) for functional activity. The conclusions obtained from this study are as follows: (1) There is an effect of giving quadriceps setting exercises to decrease pain and increase functional activity in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. (2) There is no effect of providing hospital standard therapy on decreasing pain and increasing functional activity

  • comparison of third generation versus fourth generation electronic apex locators in detecting apical constriction an in vivo study
    Journal of Conservative Dentistry, 2015
Co-Authors: Devarsanahalli Venkataramanaswamy Swapna, Anand C Patil, Akash Krishna, Krishna Rashmi, Mandagere Aswathanarayana Ranjini
    Abstract:

Aim: The aim of this in vivo study was to compare the accuracy of Root ZX and Raypex 5 in detecting minor diameter in human permanent single-rooted teeth. Materials and Methods: Thirty-one patients with completely formed single-rooted permanent teeth indicated for extraction were selected for the study. Crown was flattened for stable reference point and access cavity prepared. Working length was determined with both apex locators. A 15 K file adjusted to that reading was placed in the root canal and stabilized with cement. The tooth was then extracted atraumatically. Following extraction apical 4 mm of root was shaved. The position of the minor diameter in relation to the anatomic apex was recorded for each tooth under stereomicroscope at ×10. The efficiency of two electronic apex locators to determine the minor diameter was statistically analyzed using Paired Sample t-Test. Results: The minor diameter was located within the limits of ±0.5 mm in 96.6% of the Samples with the Root ZX and 93.2% of the Samples with Raypex 5. The Paired Sample t-Test showed no significant difference. Conclusion: On analyzing the results of our study it can be concluded that Raypex 5 was as effective as Root ZX in determining the minor diameter.
