Inside OrCAD Capture for Windows, 1998Co-Authors: Chris SchroederAbstract:Publisher Summary Capture comes with an extensive Parts library but new Parts have to be created to meet the changing demands of electronics industry. The Part Editor is used to edit existing Parts and create new Parts. The user interface for the Part Editor is very similar to that of the schematic Editor. The Capture toolbar appears at the top of the screen. The icons appearing at the right side of the screen comprise the Part Editor tool palette. This tool palette includes tools for placing IEEE symbols, pins, and drafting objects. The tools for drafting objects—line, polyline, rectangle, ellipse, arc, and text—function the same as in the schematic Editor. The Part Editor tool palette is normally displayed when the Capture Part Editor is active. One can use the Archive Project command to save an open library file. Since making changes to OrCAD-supplied libraries is not recommended, one only needs to archive any custom libraries one has created.

PruvotAbstract:In mechanical design, current CAD systems can only perform two kinds of tasks: calculation of the performance of already designed elements, and final drafting of assembly and detail drawings prior to manufacturing and filing. The creative tasks remain the exclusive domain of man. A new concept, called synthetic intelligence, seems to be able to do creative tasks. An example is given. The first commercially available truly generative process planner (KRONOS) does perform such work. KRONOS, composed of a Part Editor, a technological preprocessor, a logic module, and a technological module, is described. >
