We have applied the Method to predict residents' behavior in an emergency situation to design emergency announcement strategies and have confirmed that this Method can semi-automatically construct several different Personas and their behavior scenarios successfully. The Method provides a systematic procedure for creating Personas and is expected to reduce time and cost in the design process.

Reframing practice through the use of Personas
Reflective Practice, 2010Co-Authors: Åsa Wikberg-nilsson, Ylva Fältholm, Lena AbrahamssonAbstract:The focus of this paper is a development process of ‘Personas’; fictitious characters are used to reflect on norms and perspectives of practice. Although reflective practice is a well‐known process to enhance and support learning, improvement, development, etc., it is not easy to implement. Drawing on theories of action, this paper describes learning gained through using the Persona Method within a research project called the Future Factory. The process of developing a Persona includes a reflective examination of the case approached and an analysis and Persona creation development that go hand‐in‐hand. Lessons learned are that the process of creating Personas has contributed to a critical reflection of investigation contexts and that both the technique itself and the process of creating Personas has contributed to re‐framing practice among participants in the Future Factory project.

'Personas' as a Method for applying gender theory in Triple Helix constellations - experiences from two research projects
2010Co-Authors: Åsa Wikberg-nilsson, Eva Källhammer, Ylva Fältholm, Lena AbrahamssonAbstract:In focus in this paper is the use of the Persona Method for applying gender theory in Triple Helix systems. Whereas such systems often are considered gender neutral, we in contrast emphasize the need for understanding the process of ‘doing gender’ within those constellations. The aim of this paper is to describe our experiences of developing Persona as a Method for gender equality interventions within two Triple Helix constellations. The Personas are fictional characters addressing issues and situations identified during initial mappings of the researched contexts. The Method is used for communicating concerns, issues, needs and preferences with our participants. In our experience Persona is a useful Method for visualizing identified situations and for a reframing of actors’ gender awareness. The Persona Method contributes to talk beyond that of the “problematic women issue” and shows a way to unsettle gender constructions.

The motion sensing game design involving interactive design, user cognition, information layout of product, interface, influences nearly every important aspect of user experience. To our knowledge, the main problems exist in the motion sensing game design are as follows: (1) motion sensing games, as new type of video games, lack guiding theories and Methods for reference. (2) To enhance user experiences for players, it is necessary to increase the research on user perception of user l behaviors in early stages of the design. Therefore, inefficiency of game design arises due to lack of effective research Methods. In addition, (3) it takes a very long time to develop the project and it also costs a lot. Only by determine users’ needs in early stages can these problems be resolved. Inspired by current user research Methods within human-computer interaction, product design, and architecture, this paper argue that a Persona that is created as a design tool can be used in the process of motion sensing game design. This paper ground the Persona Method through a design project, Ball Game, based on Kinect. This approach opens new avenues for the analysis and practice of user-centered interaction design of motion sensing games and improves the game experience significantly.
