Effect of finishing on performance characteristics of woven and Warp-knitted terry fabrics
2015Co-Authors: Muhammet Akaydin, Kenan Yilmaz, Nazire Deniz YilmazAbstract:The influence of some finishing processes has been studied on the performance characteristics of woven and Warp-knitted terry fabrics with open-end Pile Warp. Terry fabrics of similar structural parameters have been produced by weaving or Warp knitting and then subjected to finishing processes which are commonly applied by the textile industry. Samples are extracted at different stages of the finishing processes. Water absorption behavior, structural parameters, and mechanical properties are evaluated and the results are compared by statistical analysis of the obtained data. It is observed that compared to greige terry fabrics, the finishing treatment increases basis weight and dimensional stability due to shrinkage occurred with relaxation, water absorption rate due to the removal of size and other hydrophobic substances, and elongation ratio because of the elimination of size film during pretreatment processing. Woven terry fabrics give higher strength values and Warp-knitted terry fabrics show higher elongation.

Simulation of the Pile loop for terry woven fabrics

In accordance with this purpose, the structural properties of 27 type systematically produced terry woven fabrics, which had three different Pile Warp count, three different weft setting and three different Pile ratio, were analyzed before and after Pile formation. The changing of Pile form was observed on the jaw moving platform, and Pile formation steps in the terry weaving process were simulated.

Investigating the Effects of Core Spun Yarns on the Quick-Dry Property of Towels
Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, 2018Co-Authors: Sait Yılönü, Belkıs Zervent ÜnalAbstract:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of core-spun yarn on the quick-dry property of towels. This study focused on five different raw materials (modal, cotton, polyester, bamboo, viscose) which are the most frequently used in towel production. Seven different core yarns and five different conventional yarns were produced with these fibres on a ring spinning machine. These yarns were used in the weft direction of the towels. Samples produced with the same ground and Pile Warp yarns were subjected to constant dyeing conditions. All samples were tested for strength, softness, hydrophilicity and quick drying. As a result, polyester core yarn on the towels did not negatively affect basic properties such as water absorbency, softness and strength. However, the usage of polyester core yarns provided better quick dry properties than that of conventional yarns.

The Using of Nettle Fiber in Towel Production and Investigation of the Performance Properties

Six different towel samples were produced in the study. Ground Warp yarns of all towels are cotton. Three different raw materials as weft yarns and two different raw materials as Pile Warp yarns were selected. The yarn containing nettle fiber (70% cotton/30% nettle) was used in weft direction. The performance parameters such as water absorbency, softness, quick drying of samples, and antibacterial activity for two bacteria were investigated for before and after household washing. As a result, it was seen that the nettle fiber can be used as an alternative in towel industry.
