  • Introduction to the Mechanical, Thermal, and Permeation Properties of Plastics and Elastomer Films
Film Properties of Plastics and Elastomers, 2017
    Co-Authors: Laurence W. Mckeen
    Abstract:

This chapter is an introduction to measurement of the many properties of films covered in the data chapter of this book. Theory and measurement techniques are covered. Physical properties including: specific gravity and density, dimensional stability, shrinkage and expansion, color and appearance, and coefficient of friction. Mechanical properties reviewed include various tensile measures, flexural and folding, puncture and tear. Thermal properties covered include melt flow index, melting point, and glass transition. Electrical properties are also covered. The discussion of permeation theory and measurement is detailed.

  • Synthesis and Properties of N,N-dihydroxylethyl Laurylamine
    Chemical Research, 2010
    Co-Authors: Liu Xiao-l
    Abstract:

N,N-dihydroxyethyl laurylamine was synthesized as a kind of novel mold-release agents by using diethanolamine and lauryl bromide as raw materials in absolute alcohol. The optimum conditions for preparing the target product were determined based on orthogonal tests, where various factors were investigated in relation to their effects on the yield.Besides, the structure of the product was characterized, and its physico-chemical properties and surface chemical properties were evaluated. Results indicate that N,N-dihydroxyethyl laurylamine can be readily synthesized in absolute alcohol as the medium at a yield of 85.37%.The aqueous solution of the synthesized product has a critical micelle concentration(CMC) of 2.92×10-3 mol/L,corresponding to a liquid surface tension of 20.875 mN/m.Moreover,the film made from N,N-dihydroxyethyl laurylamine as the starting material has a surface energy of only 14.57 mN/m,much lower than 29 mN/m of polyurethane, showing promising potential as an ideal raw material of mold-release agents for polyurethane Plastics and Elastomer.
