molecular simulation of ultrathin Polymeric Films near the glass transition
Physical Review Letters, 2000Co-Authors: J A Torres, Paul F Nealey, J J De PabloAbstract:Properties such as the glass transition temperature ( T(g)) and the diffusion coefficient of ultrathin Polymeric Films are shown to depend on the dimensions of the system. In this work, a hard-sphere molecular dynamics methodology has been applied to simulate such systems. We investigate the influence that substrates have on the behavior of thin polymer Films; we report evidence suggesting that, depending on the strength of substrate-polymer interactions, the glass transition temperature for a thin film can be significantly lower or higher than that of the bulk.

microstructures in thin Polymeric Films photochemically produced molecular voids
Inorganic Chemistry, 1992Co-Authors: Sharon Gould, Kimberley H Gray, Richard W Linton, Thomas J MeyerAbstract:Ligand loss photochemistry in copolymerized Films of poly-cis-[Ru(Me[sub 4]bpy)[sub 2](vpy)[sub 2]][sup 2+][Os(vbpy)[sub 3]][sup 2+] (Me[sub 4]bpy is 4,4[prime],5,5[prime]-tetramethyl-2,2[prime]-bipyridine, vpy is 4-vinylpyridine, vbpy is 4-methyl-4[prime]-vinyl-2,2[prime]-bipyridine) on Pt electrodes results in loss of [-Ru(Me[sub 4]bpy)[sub 2]][sup 2+] and the creation of molecular voids. The vpy binding sites in the poly[Os(vbpy)[sub 3]][sup 2+],vpy Films which remained were used to coordinate [-Os(PMe[sub 2]Ph)[sub 3]Cl[sub 2]] following reduction of mer-Os(PMe[sub 2]Ph)[sub 3]Cl[sub 3] at the underlying electrode. By using masking techniques, it was possible to incorportae the Os[sup II] complex with spatial control. 15 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab.

separation of bacteria with imprinted Polymeric Films
Analyst, 2012Co-Authors: Romana Schirhagl, Eric W Hall, Ingo Fuereder, Richard N ZareAbstract:Separation of compounds out of complex mixtures is a key issue that has been solved for small molecules by chromatography. However, general methods for the separation of large bio-particles, such as cells, are still challenging. We demonstrate integration of imprinted Polymeric Films (IPF) into a microfluidic chip, which preferentially capture cells matching an imprint template, and separate strains of cyanobacteria with 80–90% efficiency, despite a minimal difference in morphology and fluorescence, demonstrating its general nature. It is currently thought that the imprinting process, conducted while the polymer cures, transfers chemical information of the cell’s external structure to the substrate. Capture specificity and separation can be further enhanced by orienting the imprints parallel to the flow vector and tuning the pH to a lower range.

Measurement of stresses in Polymeric Films with Braille and tactile elements
2020Co-Authors: Venytė Ingrida, Kibirkštis Edmundas, Voloshin A, Ragulskis Kazimieras, Ragulskis LiutaurasAbstract:The paper is devoted to the problem of stress measurements in Polymeric Films with Braille and tactile relief elements by using the method of photo-elasticity. A separate Braille and tactile relief element is analyzed numerically by using an axisymmetric model and the problem of determination of distribution of equivalent stress is investigated. Nodal stresses are calculated by using the procedure of conjugate approximation. Equivalent stresses are represented by intensity of the image. A special experimental setup was developed for the measurement of stresses in Polymeric materials. The obtained results of investigations are used in the process of design of Polymeric Films with Braille and tactile relief elements by taking into account the stress distributions in themKauno technologijos universitetasVytauto Didžiojo universiteta

Detection of the surface defects in thin Polymeric Films using projection moiré
'JVE International Ltd.', 2020Co-Authors: Miliūnas Valdas, Kibirkštis Edmundas, Voloshin A, Stepanenko A, Buškuvienė Nijolė, Ragulskis LiutaurasAbstract:Experimental investigations of the Polymeric Films HDPE and PP and of the multi-layered material PET+LDPE with defects (puckered surfaces, holes and segregation of the upper layer) were performed. For this purpose, the method of projection moiré was used. In the process of investigations, the images of the defects were determined. During the experimental investigations it was determined that the images and shapes of the eigenmodes, as well as the frequencies and amplitudes of vibrations change due to mechanical or structural defects in the Polymeric Films and because of symmetrical or un-symmetrical loading. Typical optical images for various types of defects were determined. In the paper smoothness of fringes by using the method of time averaged geometric moiré is also investigated. On the basis of a one dimensional model graphical relationships for linear variation with respect to longitudinal coordinate of amplitude of vibrations are obtained. They provide the background for the choice of the required number of images in a period of oscillations for different smoothnesses of moiré fringesKauno technologijos universitetasSistemų analizės katedraVytauto Didžiojo universiteta

Investigation of stresses during dynamic behavior of Polymeric Films used for Braille
2020Co-Authors: Venytė Ingrida, Kibirkštis Edmundas, Voloshin A, Ragulskis Kazimieras, Paškevičius Petras, Sudintas, Antanas Rimantas, Ragulskis LiutaurasAbstract:In recent years publications for the blind people using Braille writing began to be produced on Polymeric Films. This has the advantage with respect to previous technologies, because such publications have longer time period till the time when their quality degrades and they become unacceptable for use. Plotting isoclinics for bending vibrations of a Polymeric film using photo-elastic coatings is analyzed. The numerical procedure is based on the technique of conjugate approximation with smoothing. Improved smoothing procedure for two dimensional Lagrange quadratic elements is proposed. Composite isoclinic patterns with isoclinics for various directions of the vector of polarization in a plane polariscope are obtained. A single Braille element of the Polymeric film on the basis of the plane strain problem is investigated. Nodal stresses are calculated by using the procedure of conjugate approximation. Equivalent stresses are represented by intensity of the image. Special experimental setup was created. Three samples were investigated: the first two samples were made from transparent Polymeric film with Braille elements, the third sample was made from transparent Polymeric film with Braille elements formed by the method of thermal shaping. The level of stresses is estimated in the static status of the sample and after rotations by various angles. For precise estimation of the stress fields photo‑elastic images for a number of different values of the angle of rotation are required. Thus in this paper stresses in transparent Polymeric Films and Braille elements in them are investigated. The obtained results are used in the process of forming Braille elements in Polymeric FilmsKauno technologijos universitetasVytauto Didžiojo universiteta

Measurement of stresses in vibrating Polymeric Films used for Braille elements
2020Co-Authors: Gegeckienė Laura, Venytė Ingrida, Kibirkštis Edmundas, Voloshin A, Ragulskis Kazimieras, Ragulskis LiutaurasAbstract:A separate Braille element is analyzed. Axisymmetric problem for the first harmonic in the circumferential direction is investigated. Maximum equivalent stresses on circles on the boundaries of the structure for the first eigenmodes are obtained. At the places of maximum equivalent stresses deterioration of quality of material of a Polymeric film is expected. One dimensional model for the investigation of longitudinal vibrations of Polymeric film is used for the determination of number of cycles till start of wear when the film performs vibrations according to the eigenmode. Graphical representations for different values of the parameter of the model are obtained. The results of performed investigations are used in the process of interpretation of measurements of wear of vibrating Polymeric Films used in the process of printing and production of material with Braille elementsKauno technologijos universitetasVytauto Didžiojo universiteta
