  • refurbishment and uprating of hydro Power Plants a literature review
Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2015
    Co-Authors: O. P. Rahi, Ashwani Kumar Chandel
    Abstract:

Refurbishment and uprating of hydro Power Plants has become an important issue for Power generation experts and the utilities because of perennial shortage of Power and slow pace in new hydro Power addition programmes. As a result, in the recent years there has been great deal of interest in refurbishment and uprating of hydro Power Plants (HPP) for effective utilization of water potential. The concern about the issue has resulted from the large number of Power houses in India which have outlived their useful life or are not operating optimally due to inadequacies in design. Hence, refurbishment and uprating of hydro Power Plants is the need of the day. To accomplish such a task various aspects of refurbishment and uprating of hydro Power Plants need to be reviewed. The present paper focuses on the research activities and practical experience in the area of refurbishment and uprating of hydro Power Plants. This exhaustive review consisting of about 214 research papers, reports, guidelines and standards will be of great help to the researchers, hydro Power utilities and energy policy planners.

  • hybridization of parabolic trough Power Plants with natural gas
    Energy Procedia, 2014
Co-Authors: Tobias Vogel, Gerd Oeljeklaus, Klaus Gorner, Jurgen Dersch, Thomas Polklas
    Abstract:

Abstract Hybridization may be an intermediate step on the way to the 100% renewable energy era. In respect of the specific CO2 emissions natural gas has to be preferred compared to hard coal or lignite. Most fossil fuel fired Power Plants as well as concentrated solar thermal Power Plants use the water/steam cycle for Power generation. Owing to this similarity a combination of both energy resources could be rewarding. This paper deals with different hybridization concepts for parabolic trough Power Plants with natural gas based on a Power plant configuration similar to Shams One.

  • Energy and exergy analyses of thermal Power Plants: A review
Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2011
    Co-Authors: S C Kaushik, V. Siva Reddy, S K Tyagi
    Abstract:

The energy supply to demand narrowing down day by day around the world, the growing demand of Power has made the Power Plants of scientific interest, but most of the Power Plants are designed by the energetic performance criteria based on first law of thermodynamics only. The real useful energy loss cannot be justified by the fist law of thermodynamics, because it does not differentiate between the quality and quantity of energy. The present study deals with the comparison of energy and exergy analyses of thermal Power Plants stimulated by coal and gas. This article provides a detailed review of different studies on thermal Power Plants over the years. This review would also throw light on the scope for further research and recommendations for improvement in the existing thermal Power Plants.
