  • Using Estrus-Detection Patches to Vary Time of Insemination Improves Pregnancy Rates Compared with One Single Timed Insemination
    New Prairie Press, 2016
    Co-Authors: Hill, Scott L., Grieger D. M., Olson K C, Jaeger J. R., Stevenson, Jeffrey S.
    Abstract:

Timed artificial insemination (TAI) of beef cows at a Predetermined Time is a management tool that reduces labor costs associated with conventional heat detection before insemination. Multiple research trials have examined timing of the individual components of the developed protocols associated with TAI. The 7-day CO-Synch + progesterone insert (controlled internal drug release; CIDR) protocol has been shown to initiate ovulation effectively in cycling and noncycling suckled beef cows, often producing pregnancy rates greater than 50% in beef cows. In the current research, we examined using two targeted insemination intervals depending on the occurrence of estrus. We hypothesized that by more closely synchronizing estrus and insemination that pregnancy rates would be increased. We further hypothesized that cows that do not demonstrate estrus and are subjected to a TAI protocol might benefit from an increased interval to insemination

  • Variation in Timed artificial insemination pregnancy rates in specific groups of suckled beef cows
Kansas State University. Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, 2014
    Co-Authors: Hill, Scott L., Stevenson, Jeffrey S.
    Abstract:

Insemination of beef cows at a Predetermined Time is a management tool to reduce labor costs associated with conventional heat detection available to cattle producers. Multiple research trials have examined the timing of the administration of the individual components of the developed protocols associated with Timed artificial insemination (TAI). In the current research, we examined various classifications of postpartum beef cows and analyzed their reproductive performance when submitted to TAI protocols. The 7-day CO-Synch + controlled internal drug release (CIDR) insert protocol and the 5-day CO-Synch + CIDR protocol have been shown to effectively initiate ovulation in cycling and non-cycling suckled beef cows, producing pregnancy rates at or greater than 50% in beef cows. We hypothesized that uniformly selected groups of cows based on their progesterone status at CIDR insertion, days postpartum, body condition score, and/or parity would demonstrate improved reproductive performance compared with non-grouped cows

  • inference for constant stress accelerated life tests with dependent competing risks from bivariate birnbaum saunders distribution based on adaptive progressively hybrid censoring
    IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 2017
Co-Authors: Chunfang Zhang, Yimin Shi, Xuchao Bai
    Abstract:

In life testing, the competing risks model is usually discussed under the assumption of independence. In this paper, we consider a dependent competing risks model using bivariate Birnbaum–Saunders distribution in constant-stress accelerated life testing. To observe expected failure Times and terminate the life tests around a Predetermined Time, the adaptive progressively hybrid censoring scheme is adopted. Based on the accelerated competing risks model with the adaptive progressively hybrid censoring scheme, we obtain the maximum-likelihood estimators, approximate confidence intervals, and bootstrap confidence intervals of unknown parameters. To test the independence between the bivariate competing risks and find the relationship of shape and scale parameters, we discuss the likelihood ratio tests for hypotheses of interest. In addition, we compute the maximum-likelihood predictors of unobserved competing risks Times in the constant-stress accelerated life tests. Finally, a simulation study and an illustrative example are provided to support the proposed model and methods, and to examine the performance of estimators and testing.

  • direct current arc fault circuit interrupter direct current arc fault detector noise blanking circuit for a direct current arc fault circuit interrupter and method of detecting arc faults
    2010
Co-Authors: Jerome K Hastings, Joseph Zuercher, Birger Pahl, Brian Thomas Pier, Edward T Gisske
    Abstract:

A direct current arc fault circuit interrupter includes separable contacts and a trip circuit to trip open the contacts. The trip circuit includes a number of alternating current sensors structured to sense a current flowing through the separable contacts, a number of filter circuits cooperating with the AC current sensors to output a number of AC signals, a number of peak detectors cooperating with the filter circuits to output a number of peak current signals, and a processor cooperating with at least the peak detectors. The processor inputs the number of peak current signals as a plurality of peak current signals or inputs the number of peak current signals and determines the plurality of peak current signals. The processor also determines if the peak current signals exceed corresponding Predetermined thresholds for a Predetermined Time, and responsively causes the contacts to trip open.
