  • Non-invasive blood Pressure Measurement in mice.
Methods in molecular biology (Clifton N.J.), 2009
    Co-Authors: Minjie Feng, Keith Dipetrillo
    Abstract:

Hypertension is a leading cause of heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure and represents a serious medical issue worldwide. The genetic basis of hypertension is well-established, but few causal genes have been identified thus far. Non-invasive blood Pressure Measurements are a critical component of high-throughput genetic studies to identify genes controlling blood Pressure. Whereas this technique is fairly routine for blood Pressure Measurements in rats, non-invasive blood Pressure Measurement in mice has proven to be more challenging. This chapter describes an experimental protocol measuring blood Pressure in mice using a CODA non-invasive blood Pressure monitoring system. This method enables accurate blood Pressure phenotyping in mice for linkage or mutagenesis studies, as well as for other experiments requiring high-throughput blood Pressure Measurement.

  • Intraocular Pressure Measurement after corneal transplantation.
    Survey of ophthalmology, 2019
Co-Authors: Bernardo De Padua Soares Bezerra, Elsie Chan, Rahul Chakrabarti, Rasik B Vajpayee
    Abstract:

Measurement of intraocular Pressure is an integral part of a comprehensive ocular examination, especially after a surgical intervention that can affect aqueous humor flow dynamics. Most of the intraocular Pressure Measurement devices are designed for "normal" corneas and may not be accurate in eyes after corneal transplantation where there is altered corneal morphology. Raised intraocular Pressure and glaucoma are known postoperative complications after transplantation, and therefore, accurate intraocular Pressure Measurement is essential. We review the effect of abnormal corneal curvature, corneal thickness, and different biomechanical properties in the context of corneal transplantation on intraocular Pressure Measurement using a number of devices.

  • Blood Pressure Measurement--an overview.
    Swiss medical weekly, 2012
    Co-Authors: Thomas Dieterle
    Abstract:

Arterial hypertension continues to represent the leading cause of morbidity and mortality world-wide. Diagnosis and therapy of arterial hypertension require adequate blood Pressure Measurements. Blood Pressure is affected by constitutional and environmental factors as well as the Measurement procedure itself, inducing substantial uncertainty with regard to adequate diagnosis and control of arterial hypertension. Therefore, current guidelines recommend that the diagnosis of arterial hypertension should not be solely based on conventional blood Pressure Measurements in the physician's office or in the hospital, but also on out-of-office ambulatory or home blood Pressure Measurements using clinically validated semi-automated or automated blood Pressure Measurement devices. Despite the enormous progress in the field of arterial hypertension, many aspects of blood Pressure Measurement require further intensive investigation, for example blood Pressure Measurement in special populations and distinct clinical situations, as well as the applicability and validation of novel Measurement approaches and devices. This article provides an overview of current methods and trends in the field of non-invasive blood Pressure Measurement, an update on current clinical guidelines and an overview of blood Pressure Measurement in special populations.

  • Blood Pressure Measurement.
    Journal of renal care, 2006
    Co-Authors: Vilaplana
    Abstract:

SUMMARY Blood Pressure Measurement is the basis for the diagnosis, management, treatment, epidemiology and research of hypertension and the decisions affecting these aspects of hypertension will be influenced by the accuracy of Measurement. Although blood Pressure Measurement is one of the most common clinical techniques, there are some factors affecting it, such as blood Pressure variability or blood Pressure measuring devices. Blood Pressure can be measured in different ways: • Clinic blood Pressure Measurement is taken in physician's office. The accurate Measurement of blood Pressure in clinical practice is dependent on the individual, the equipment used and the observer; this is the most common when considering therapeutic decisions. • Self blood Pressure Measurement provides us with values on different days, in settings as close to daily life conditions as possible, having no white-coat effect. • Ambulatory blood Pressure Measurement. With this method, using devices that permit the automatic monitoring of blood Pressure in a patients normal life, health professionals are able to have blood Pressure values over 24 hours, as well as the possibility of average blood Pressure values over a requested period, such as the day or the night.
