  • the influence of a Process Interruption on tensile properties of alsi10mg samples produced by selective laser melting
    Rapid Prototyping Journal, 2019
Co-Authors: Vincent H Hammond, Michael Schuch, Matthias Bleckmann
    Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of a Process Interruption on the tensile properties of AlSi10Mg samples produced by selective laser melting (SLM).,Using identical Processing parameters, cylindrical samples were produced in either a continuous or interrupted SLM build operation. The tensile properties and microstructure of the samples were determined as a function of Process type as well as orientation.,All samples produced in this paper displayed superior tensile properties to those produced in high pressure die casting. In general, the samples produced in the continuous build Process had higher strengths and microhardness than those produced in the interrupted Process. However, while most samples displayed random failure locations, the vertical samples produced in the interrupted build Process showed a strong tendency for localized failure in the vicinity of the stoppage plane.,This paper demonstrated that samples produced in an interrupted build Process tend to have poorer mechanical properties than those produced in a continuous Process. Together, these observations highlight the importance of a suitable technique for restarting and completing an interrupted build Process to ensure the production of high quality components.

  • A memetic algorithm for solving permutation flow shop problems with known and unknown machine breakdowns
2014 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC), 2014
Co-Authors: Humyun F. Rahman, Ruhul A. Sarker, Daryl L. Essam, Guijuan Chang
    Abstract:

The Permutation Flow Shop Scheduling Problem (PFSP) is considered to be one of the complex combinatorial optimization problems. For PFSPs, the schedule is produced under ideal conditions that usually ignore any type of Process Interruption. In practice, the production Process is interrupted due to many different reasons, such as machine unavailability and breakdowns. In this paper, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based approach to deal with Process Interruptions at different points in time in Permutation Shop Floor scenarios. We have considered two types of Process Interruption events. The first one is predictive, where the Interruption information is known well in advance, and the second one is reactive, where the Interruption information is not known until the breakdown occurs. An extensive set of experiments has been carried out, which demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed approach.

  • A Cuk Converter to Improve the Ride-Through Capability of Low Power Adjustable Speed Drives for Voltage Sag and Swell
International Review of Electrical Engineering-iree, 2013
    Co-Authors: V. Suresh Kumar, K. R. Ramela, Ahmed F. Zobaa
    Abstract:

Adjustable speed drives are the sophisticated and sensitive power electronics equipment preferred for modern Processesenabling commercial and industrial facilities to dramatically reduce energy use, operating and maintenance costs, while improving operations. Voltage sags and swells which are most common in power systems can interrupt the ASD’s operation which leadsto the financial losses because of the Process Interruption. This paper proposes Cuk converter to improve the performance of induction motor drive during sag and swell conditions. In this paper, for various types of sag and swell, the performance of induction motor drive is verified using MATLAB simulink. Simulation outcomes are presented for the proof of the proposed method.
