  • modelling marketing resources Procurement Process coordination and firm performance in the malaysian building construction industry
Engineering Construction and Architectural Management, 2015
Co-Authors: Akmal Aini Othman, Sofiah Abd Rahman, Veera Pandiyan Kaliani Sundram, Muhammad Awais Bhatti
    Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to establish a link between marketing resources, Procurement Process coordination (PPC) and firm performance. To allow for greater understanding in the field of supply chain management, the present study looked into the coordination between the construction firms and their main building materials suppliers. Design/methodology/approach – This study employed the quantitative method where stratified random sampling and self-administrated questionnaires were sent to respondents in the construction industry. The research framework was tested using structural equation modelling technique. Findings – The empirical result revealed that marketing resources have positive and significant effects on PPC dimensions. It was also found that PPC (mainly joint operation planning and supplier relationship development dimensions) has significant positive relationship towards firm performance. Research limitations/implications – This study focused solely on the firms in the construction...

  • supply chain management in the building construction industry linking Procurement Process coordination market orientation and performance
Journal of Surveying Construction & Property, 2010
Co-Authors: Akmal Aini Othman, Sofiah Abd Rahman
    Abstract:

Supply chain (SC) is basically a network of firms involved in complex activities andmulti Processes. With such complexities, this management of interdependencies require to be coordinated to improve the performance of SC i.e. on flow of information, services, money and material. Various areas of supply chain management (SCM) havebeen explored by the researchers including supply chain coordination (SCC) andmanaging supplier relations. The initial part of this paper presents a conceptualdiscussion and framework of the link between market orientation, Procurement Process coordination and performance in the construction industry. It is supported with the result from a pilot case study in the building construction sector. The discussion from the pilot case study concentrates on the importance of market orientation and each activity in the Procurement Process coordination. Finding from this study illustrates that the importance of Procurement Process coordination in the construction industry slightly varies from manufacturing. While, several means of coordination could be adopted, information sharing and supply contract were demonstrated to be visible. Keywords: Supply Chain Management, Market orientation, Procurement, performance& construction

  • Capability hierarchy in electronic Procurement and Procurement Process performance: An empirical analysis
    Journal of Operations Management, 2013
Co-Authors: Abhay Nath Mishra, Sarv Devaraj, Ganesh Vaidyanathan
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper examines the interrelationship between two hierarchically structured functional capabilities pertinent in the organizational Procurement Process, and the impact of these capabilities on Procurement Process performance. These functional capabilities operate at different levels in an organization's Procurement Process. We draw upon resource- and knowledge-based views of the firm to theorize that in this hierarchy of information technology-enabled Procurement capabilities, the higher-level capability – Procurement integration competence – enables firms to develop and deploy a lower-level capability – digital Procurement competence. Further, we theorize that the lower-level capability impacts Procurement Process performance directly and completely mediates the relationship between higher-level capability and performance. Thus, although performance is impacted directly only by the lower-level capability, the higher-level capability facilitates the development and use of the lower-level capability. Our research model is tested using survey data from a large sample of 412 manufacturing firms. The results provide strong support for the proposed research model. In particular, we find that as hypothesized, the impact of Procurement integration competence on performance is completely mediated by digital Procurement competence. Our results suggest that when examined at the Procurement Process level, the impact of higher-level capabilities may be manifested completely through the lower-level capabilities. Theoretical and practical implications of the research are discussed.

  • Risk indicators for managing the energy Procurement Process
International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, 2015
    Co-Authors: Chiara Verbano, Maria Crema
    Abstract:

Purpose – Energy commodities are characterised by rigid demand and high price volatility, linked to many variables such as climate factors, exchange rates, availability of resources. At the same time, the authorities often set prices, so wholesale energy companies need to create margins carefully by managing the Procurement Process and selecting appropriate tools to manage the risks associated with the volatility of energy prices. The purpose of this paper is to analyse and evaluate price and volume risks in the energy Procurement Process considering a “non-speculative” point of view, which is understudied in the literature review. Design/methodology/approach – The paper adopts a quantitative approach to risk evaluation, based on accounting indicators, and applies it to a large Italian energy wholesale company. Findings – A set of key risk indicators to measure price and volume risks is presented in the results, split into synthesis risk, unbalanced risks, modulation risks and risks derived from bilateral...
