    Production of prompt D0 mesons is studied in proton-lead and lead-proton collisions recorded at the LHCb detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.58±0.02 nb−1 recorded at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of sNN=5 TeV. Measurements of the differential cross-section, the forward-backward Production Ratio and the nuclear modification factor are reported using D0 candidates with transverse momenta less than 10 GeV/c and rapidities in the ranges 1.5 < y∗< 4.0 and −5.0 < y∗< −2.5 in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system.

    The Production of ψ(2S) mesons is studied in dimuon final states using proton-lead collision data collected by the LHCb detector. The forward-backward Production Ratio and the nuclear modification factor are determined for ψ(2S) mesons. Using the Production cross-section results of ψ(2S) and J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays, the $$ b\overline{b} $$ cross-section in pPb collisions at $$ \sqrt{s_{N\;N}}=5 $$ TeV is obtained.

    Abstract:

    Production of mesons in proton-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy = 5 TeV is studied with the LHCb detector. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.6 nb(-1). The mesons of transverse momenta up to 15 GeV/c are reconstructed in the dimuon decay mode. The rapidity coverage in the centre-of-mass system is 1.5 < y < 4.0 (forward region) and -5.0 < y < -2.5 (backward region). The forward-backward Production Ratio and the nuclear modification factor for (1S) mesons are determined. The data are compatible with the predictions for a suppression of (1S) Production with respect to proton-proton collisions in the forward region, and an enhancement in the backward region. The suppression is found to be smaller than in the case of prompt J/psi mesons.
