Journal of Clinical Research, 2013Co-Authors: Josefina J Card, Shayna D Cunningham, Emily N Newman, Rachel E GoldenAbstract:Established in 1996 with funding from CDC and NIH, the HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Archive (HAPPA) is now the biggest private sector collection of HIV-related evidence-based behavioral interventions (EBIs). Each EBI in HAPPA has been determined by a distinguished Scientist Expert Panel to have demonstrated efficacy in preventing HIV or its risk-related behaviors in the United States. The multimedia replications kits contain everything that a new site would need to implement an EBI such as a user guide that gives an overview of the Program and the evidence of its effectiveness; a facilitator's manual that gives step-by-step implementation protocols for each session; and session implementation materials referenced in the facilitator's manual such as slides, video clips, participant handouts, activity masters, checklists, and homework assignments for the next session. The Program packages also contain evaluation materials such as surveys and questionnaires that were used in the original demonstration of effectiveness and that may be used to re-evaluate the Program as implemented in a new setting. Recently, we have expanded HAPPA's scope to include HIV EBIs developed globally and to include evidence-based structural interventions (effective in modifying the physical, social, cultural, political, economic, legal, and/or policy aspects of the HIV risk environment). This paper describes HAPPA's procedures for identifying, selecting, acquiring and packaging HIV EBIs. It also provides comprehensive lists of evidence-based HIV behavioral and structural interventions and gives information on how to access EBI Program packages for implementation in new settings.

The HAPPA collection builds on a previously established collection of 13 effective HIV/AIDS/sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention Programs for adolescents known as PASHA, the Program Archive on Sexuality, Health, & Adolescence. Together, the HAPPA and PASHA collections provide a rich source of 23 promising Programs designed to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. The HAPPA and PASHA Programs are available for use by communities, schools, family planning clinics, STD clinics, mental health centers, and drug rehabilitation centers throughout the country.

Family Planning Perspectives, 1996Co-Authors: Josefina J Card, Starr Niego, Alisa Mallari, William S FarrellAbstract:The Program Archive on Sexuality Health and Adolescence (PASHA) has prepared packages containing all the materials needed to adapt or replicate interventions with documented effectiveness in preventing adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). A Program is eligible for consideration if at least one evaluation-related publication documents in a scientifically rigorous manner its success in changing at least one fertility or STD-related behavior in teenagers or young adults. By 1996 30 such Programs had been selected for inclusion and 24 had agreed to participate. The PASHA Program package contains a curriculum guidebook Program manual student workbooks audiovisual materials a users guide and evaluation instruments. Most Programs incorporate behavioral skills development contraceptive education and sexuality education. Among the primary prevention Programs increased sexual abstinence or delay in intercourse initiation improved patterns of contraceptive use and lower pregnancy rates are the most common behavioral impact measures. Common to many Programs is a focus on low-income youth promotion of self-efficacy in sexual encounters and use of culturally sensitive materials. The PASHA Program packages provide schools community groups service agencies and clinics with possible Programmatic starting points. An appendix to this article provides brief abstracts of the 30 PASHA-selected Programs.

Results include detections, exclusion of background stars that could be a source of false positives for the transits, and detection of physically associated companions in a number of cases providing dilution measures necessary for planet parameter refinement. For six Kepler objects of interest, we find that there is ambiguity regarding which star hosts the transiting planet(s), with potentially strong implications for planetary characteristics. Our sample is evenly distributed in G, K, and M spectral types. Albeit with a small sample size, we find that physically associated binaries are more common than expected at each spectral type, reaching a factor of 10 frequency excess in M. We document the Program detection sensitivities, detections, and deliverables to the Kepler follow-up Program Archive.
