Guadial A and psiguadials C and D, three unusual meroterpenoids from Psidium guajava.
Organic letters, 2012Co-Authors: Meng Shao, Yu-qing Jian, Xiao-jun Huang, Dong-mei Zhang, Ren-wang Jiang, Ying Wang, Qingfa Tang, Xuegang Sun, Xiao-qi ZhangAbstract:The first monoterpene-based meroterpenoid (1) and two novel sesquiterpene-based ones (2 and 3) with unprecedented skeletons were isolated from the leaves of Psidium guajava. Their structures with absolute configuration were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic studies. A plausible biosynthetic pathway for all meroterpenoids from the title plant is also proposed. Compounds 2 and 3 showed significant cytotoxicity toward HepG2 and HepG2/ADM cells.

psiguadials a and b two novel meroterpenoids with unusual skeletons from the leaves of Psidium guajava
Organic Letters, 2010Co-Authors: Meng Shao, Dong-mei Zhang, Ren-wang Jiang, Ying Wang, Xiao-qi Zhang, Zhong Liu, Huihui Cao, Chunlin Fan, Heru Chen, Xinsheng YaoAbstract:Psiguadials A (1) and B (2), two novel sesquiterpenoid-diphenylmethane meroterpenoids with unusual skeletons, along with a pair of known epimers, psidial A (3) and guajadial (4), were isolated from the leaves of Psidium guajava. Their structures with absolute configurations were elucidated by means of NMR, X-ray diffraction, and quantum chemical CD calculation. Compounds 1, 2, and 4 exhibited potent inhibitory effects on the growth of human hepatoma cells.

isolation and biomimetic synthesis of guajadial b a novel meroterpenoid from Psidium guajava
Organic Letters, 2012Co-Authors: Yuan Gao, Gang-qiang Wang, Kun Wei, Fei Wang, Ping Hai, Ji-kai LiuAbstract:(±)-Guajadial B (1), an unusual humulene-based meroterpenoid, was isolated as a racemate from the leaves of Psidium guajava, collected from Vietnam. The structure of this novel secondary metabolite was established on the basis of extensive analysis of NMR spectra and confirmed by biomimetic synthesis in a domino three-component coupling reaction.
