  • Organizing the Purchasing Department for innovation
    Operations Management Research, 2011
    Co-Authors: Davide Luzzini, Stefano Ronchi
    Abstract:

Innovation is by far one of the most important competitive priorities in the current business context. Companies increasingly rely on their supply base to support their innovation potential. As a consequence, the Purchasing Department might dramatically affect the firm’s innovation capability. This paper aims to investigate—using a multiple case study approach—how the organizational design of the Purchasing Department could determine a firm’s capability to foster and manage innovation. Seven highly innovative companies were visited and the structures of their Purchasing Departments were analyzed. Three different configurations for the Purchasing Department were identified and described.

  • introduction of material flow cost accounting mfca to the supply chain a questionnaire study on the challenges of constructing a low carbon supply chain to promote resource efficiency
    Journal of Cleaner Production, 2015
Co-Authors: Michiyasu Nakajima, Asako Kimura, Bernd Wagner
    Abstract:

The purpose of the present article is to identify the requirements and challenges of promoting a low-carbon supply chain caused by the introduction of material flow cost accounting (MFCA). To this end, the role of an MFCA leader company within the low-carbon supply chain was examined. Next, the results of a questionnaire study that was carried out in 2012 were shown in the second part of the paper. The questionnaire was sent to the listed industrial enterprises (1,561 enterprises) in Japan, and the response rate was 22.8% (356 questionnaires received). The status quo of information sharing between the buyers and suppliers along the supply chain, preconditions, and requirements for introducing MFCA was considered. The study showed that setting environmental indicators as performance evaluation criteria of a company's Purchasing Department, as well as explaining the performance of MFCA to the Purchasing Department on the one hand, and promoting inter-organizational information sharing between buyers and suppliers on the other, are important steps in order to effectively introduce MFCA in the supply chain.

  • an erp model for supplier selection in electronics industry
    Expert Systems With Applications, 2011
Co-Authors: Chintsai Lin, Chiebein Chen, Yingchan Ting
    Abstract:

Asus Tech. is the largest motherboard manufacturer in Taiwan. Hundreds of suppliers cooperate with the company in business. So that supplier selection is the most important function of a Purchasing Department in the enterprise. An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in the process of supplier selection may result in the great savings in both costs and man hours. In the concept of push and pull, an ERP system acts as an efficient tool in the resource integration and profit creation for a company. Through ERP, a decision manager can clearly realize the strength and weakness of the Purchasing operation. To establish a real-time Purchasing environment, a methodology of analytic network process (ANP), technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and linear programming (LP) are effectively applied in the supplier selection process. ANP and TOPSIS are used to calculate the weight and give suppliers a ranking; LP effectively allocates order quantity to each vendor. As to the result, four PC board suppliers are given orders for 1200, 727, 1000 and 73 pieces.
