  • studies on leaching and recycling of zinc from Rayon waste sludge
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2004
    Co-Authors: Vinay Kumar, L Maharaj, R Singh
    Abstract:

Zinc is an important nonferrous metal used in various metallurgical, chemical, and textile industries. In textile industries, a waste sludge containing zinc hydroxide is generated during the manufacture of Rayon Yarn. The two sludge samples were used for the experimental work. The National Rayon contained a high value of zinc (18.90%), 13.0% Ca, and 7.63% Si, whereas the sample from Baroda Rayon contained a low value of zinc (5.12%), 19.2% Ca, and 5.60% Si. The impurities present in both of the samples are iron, aluminum, magnesium, silica, etc. The leaching studies were carried out using alkaline, ammoniacal, and acidic solutions at different concentrations of the lixiviants at room temperature. Sulfuric acid has been found to be the suitable reagent for complete dissolution of zinc. On the basis of the results of kinetic studies of the leaching in sulfuric acid medium, a chemical reaction control dense constant size cylindrical model has been proposed as the experimental data that fit most satisfactoril...

  • Processing of Rayon waste effluent for the recovery of zinc and separation of calcium using thiophosphinic extractant.
    Journal of hazardous materials, 2006
    Co-Authors: M K Jha, V Kumar, D Bagchi, R J Singh, Jae-chun Lee
    Abstract:

Zinc is used in various metallurgical, chemical and textile industries. In textile industries, waste effluent containing zinc is generated during the manufacture of Rayon Yarn. Due to the strict environmental regulations and the presence of toxic metallic and other constituents, the discharge of effluents in sewage is restricted. In view of above a process has been developed for the recovery of zinc from Rayon waste effluent following solvent extraction technique using thiophosphinic extractants Cyanex 272 and 302. Before recycling of zinc sulphate solution in spinning bath, solution must be free from calcium, which is deleterious to the process as gypsum precipitates and forms scale. The extractant Cyanex 302 has been found selective for the recovery of 99.99% of zinc in the form of [R(2)Zn](org) from the effluent above equilibrium pH 3.4 maintaining the O/A ratio of 1/30 leaving all the calcium in the raffinate. The zinc from the loaded Cyanex 302 can be stripped with 10% sulphuric acid at even O/A ratio of 10. The stripped solution thus obtained could be recycled in the spinning bath of the Rayon plant and raffinate could be disposed safely without affecting environment.

  • Mix woven technique study and product development of raw silk/cuprammonium Rayon Yarn
    2009
    Co-Authors: Ding Xi-qiang
    Abstract:

The new product mix woven by silk Yarn and environmentally friendly cuprammonium Rayon is of beautiful luster and soft hand-feel and is quite comfortable to wear. This mix-woven technique has mainly solved the following difficulties: the abrasion resistance of silk Yarn under high warp density, pilling of dyed cuprammonium Rayon Yarn;weaving difficulty resulted from low fiber tension and finding out of the balancing point of the two different fibers' moisture level in weaving environment, etc.Product development of APEC satin brocade and color stripe rib silk is also introduced in the article.
