Onko musiikkia boksin ulkopuolella?
As music Recording became a job done with digital equipment analog Recording was pushed to a margin. It still has its followers, because it offers a different workflow and a distinct sound. The question this thesis examines is what benefits can older analog Recording workflows and mediums bring to the modern day digital Recording environment. This thesis examines the technical, production and artistic differences between music Recording using analog and digital techniques, both in theory and practice. As a case study the same composition was recorded and mixed using both techniques so that the differences between them could be examined. The differences were then studied from technical, production, ergonomic, visual and sound viewpoints. The subjective experience of the process of the case study was then analyzed from the points of view of the composer, player, audio engineer and mixer. It could be argued that digital Recording allows the best quality audio and that the older Recording Formats and techniques all suffer from technical inferiorities which on the other hand make their sound unique. Because music is subjectively experienced and interpreted it is clear that also the choice for what is the best Recording Format for a given musical piece is subject to individual subjective taste. As a result of the study it could be concluded that making good quality sound with older analog Recording techniques is possible, as long as the chosen Format benefits and supports the production, technical, artistic and most importantly the preference and the vision of the production

convolution backprojection image reconstruction for spotlight mode synthetic aperture radar
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1992Co-Authors: M D Desai, W K JenkinsAbstract:Convolution backprojection (CBP) image reconstruction has been proposed as a means of producing high-resolution synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) images by processing data directly in the polar Recording Format which is the conventional Recording Format for spotlight mode SAR. The CBP algorithm filters each projection as it is recorded and then backprojects the ensemble of filtered projections to create the final image in a pixel-by-pixel Format. CBP reconstruction produces high-quality images by handling the recorded data directly in polar Format. The CBP algorithm requires only 1-D interpolation along the filtered projections to determine the precise values that must be contributed to the backprojection summation from each projection. The algorithm is thus able to produce higher quality images by eliminating the inaccuracies of 2-D interpolation, as well as using all the data recorded in the spectral domain annular sector more effectively. The computational complexity of the CBP algorithm is O(N/sup 3/). >

development of the system for observing student movement in academic routines and transitions sosmart
Health Education & Behavior, 2017Co-Authors: Laura Russ, Collin A Webster, Michael W Beets, Catherine Egan, Robert G Weaver, Rachel Harvey, David S PhillipsAbstract:National attention on whole-of-school approaches to decrease children's sedentary behavior and increase physical activity includes movement integration (MI) in classrooms. The purpose of this study was to describe instrument development, reliability, and validity of the System for Observing Student Movement in Academic Routines and Transitions (SOSMART), designed to assess MI in elementary classrooms. An a priori conceptual framework was developed based on existing literature. The framework was expanded/refined using videos from elementary classrooms and a Delphi survey. The survey, sent to 85 experts, yielded a 38% response rate. The final system includes 11 MI variables (three categories of teacher variables, two categories of student variables) and uses a 20-second continuous interval Recording Format. Reliability and validity data were collected in 12 classrooms across four elementary schools. Instrument reliability was tested using interval-by-interval percentage agreement for each category. Construct validity was tested by estimating multilevel random effects logistic regression models comparing student accelerometer derived activity with the presence/absence of each MI variable. Intraobserver reliability resulted in 97.5% agreement and exceeded 80% on all variables. Construct validity was supported for 8 out of 11 MI variables. SOSMART can provide valid, reliable, and objective data about MI in elementary schools.
