Resonant frequency function of thickness-shear vibrations of Rectangular Crystal plates
IEEE transactions on ultrasonics ferroelectrics and frequency control, 2011Co-Authors: Ji Wang, Lijun Yang, Qiaoqiao Pan, Min-chiang ChaoAbstract:The resonant frequencies of thickness-shear vibrations of quartz Crystal plates in Rectangular and circular shapes are always required in the design and manufacturing of quartz Crystal resonators. As the size of quartz Crystal resonators shrinks, for Rectangular plates we must consider effects of both length and width for the precise calculation of resonant frequency. Starting from the three-dimensional equations of wave propagation in finite Crystal plates and the general expression of vibration modes, we obtained the relations between frequency and wavenumbers. By satisfying the major boundary conditions of the dominant thickness-shear mode, three wavenumber solutions are obtained and the frequency equation is constructed. It is shown the resonant frequency of thickness-shear mode is a second-order polynomial of aspect ratios. This conforms to known results in the simplest form and is applicable to further analytical and experimental studies of the frequency equation of quartz Crystal resonators.

Self-organisation of single-Crystals as ripple patterns through laser ablation of ionic salt solutions
Applied Surface Science, 2017Co-Authors: Ion Sandu, Iuliana Urzica, A.-m. Niculescu, Claudiu Teodor Fleaca, Florian Dumitrache, Maria BadiceanuAbstract:Abstract Relatively thin (d = 2.5 μm), diluted (c = 0.001–0.1%wt.) aqueous liquid films of ionic salts (NaCl, K2CrO4) were each irradiated with a single infrared laser pulse (wavelength, λ = 10.59 μm, fluence J −100 J/cm2, spot diameter D = 3 mm, irradiation time t = 100 μs). This approach has induced the formation of hierarchically arranged single Crystal ripples near the edge of the laser impact zone. Depending on the ionic salt concentration and β angle of incidence in respect to the surface, the number of ripples varied between 5 and 100 and their interspacing between a few micrometres and hundreds of micrometres. In addition to ripples, K2CrO4 salts form beside ripples, parallel, long and thin single Crystals, which orthogonally intersect the ripples to form a Rectangular Crystal grid. In addition to the theoretical gain, Crystals have potential applications in optoelectronics and sensors.

Bi-2212 and Y123 highly curved single-Crystal-like objects: whiskers, bows and ring-like structures
Superconductor Science and Technology, 2012Co-Authors: Petre Badica, Angelo Agostino, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Khan, Stefano Cagliero, C Plapcianu, Linda Pastero, Marco Truccato, Yuichiro Hayasaka, Gerhard JakobAbstract:High-temperature superconducting objects of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 and Y Ba2Cu3O7 highly curved in the ab-plane, such as curved/kinked whiskers, bows and ring-like structures, were obtained within a solid?liquid?solid (SLS) grass-like growth mechanism. As-grown objects are Crystals with three-dimensional epitaxy similar to conventional single Crystals: they can be viewed as Crystal parts ?cut? from a conventional Rectangular Crystal. Between our curved objects and conventional Crystals, whiskers or thin films there are some differences in the superconducting properties induced only by the shape factors and no new physics is observed. Some details of the growth mechanism are discussed, emphasizing curved-line formation.
