A sensor-based and robotic system in which the training method is used, are described.

Technology-assisted training of arm-hand skills in stroke: concepts on reacquisition of motor control and therapist guidelines for Rehabilitation Technology design

Rehabilitation approaches for upper limb training after stroke show to have shifted in the last decade from being analytical towards being focussed on environmentally contextual skill training (task-oriented training). Training programmes for enhancing motor skills use patient and goal-tailored exercise schedules and individual feedback on exercise performance. Therapist criteria for upper limb Rehabilitation Technology are suggested which are used to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a number of current technological systems.ConclusionThis review shows that Technology for supporting upper limb training after stroke needs to align with the evolution in Rehabilitation training approaches of the last decade. A major challenge for related technological developments is to provide engaging patient-tailored task oriented arm-hand training in natural environments with patient-tailored feedback to support (re) learning of motor skills.

The devices comprise a computer game and a force feedback interface, designed to stimulate children with cerebral palsy to undertake fun arm exercises that are beneficial in terms of improving overall functional use of their impaired arm. This device was developed for children using a combination of informal and formal user-centred design methods. The methods used include standard questionnaires, interviews, a modified peer tutoring process and a comparative method, and have been applied to the iterative design of both the hardware and software components of the Rehabilitation systems. Thirty-seven non-disabled children and 15 children with cerebral palsy in the 5–12-year-old age group were involved in the evaluation, held at six local primary schools. Transportation Research Record, 2009Co-Authors: Bridget M DonaldsonAbstract:Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) Technology is commonly used for pipe Rehabilitation, and transportation agencies are increasingly using it to repair damaged pipe culverts. In typical CIPP applications, a lining tube saturated with a styrene-based thermosetting resin is installed into the damaged pipe. Subsequent curing with a heat source results in a pipe within a pipe. In this study, seven styrene-based, steam-cured CIPP installations in surface water and storm water conveyances in Virginia were identified and observed over the course of 1 year. Although the sites were not directly linked to sources of drinking water, styrene levels at five sites were higher than the Environmental Protection Agency's maximum contaminant level for drinking water of 0.1 mg/L. These concentrations were detected at these sites for a minimum of 5 days to 71 days after installation.
