new expression of oil water Relative Permeability Ratio vs water satuRation and its application in water flooding curve
Energy Exploration & Exploitation, 2014Co-Authors: Feng Xu, Longxin Mu, Xianghong Wu, Yutao Ding, Xiao TianAbstract:This study attempted to more accurately predict the production performance and recoverable reserves in the late development stage, by formulating a new expression of Kro/Krw versus Sw by regression for the whole Relative Permeability curve. Further, on the basis of the Buckley-Leverett's frontal-drive equation and the Welge's average water satuRation equation, two kinds of new water flooding curve were derived from the new expression of Kro/Krw, which are more applicable for predicting the final recoverable reserve. The laboratory tests conducted in the study show that the new cubic water flooding curve R-fw follows the experimental curve, and the the final oil recovery calculated in the tests are the amount predicted by the new water flooding curve. An oilfield case study was also carried out, which indicates that the economically recoverable reserve at the water cut of 98% is 2.789 × 104 m3 through the new approach, which has the smallest percentage of error 0.12%.

pore scale investigation of microscopic remaining oil variation characteristics in water wet sandstone using ct scanning
Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2017Co-Authors: Hanqiao Jiang, Chuan Wang, Yuyun Zhao, Yajun Gao, Yanli Pei, Chenchen Wang, Hu DongAbstract:Abstract With the aid of CT scanning and image processing techniques, water displacing oil experiments were performed to analyze six natural water-wet sandstone cores of different Permeability and porosity visually and quantitatively. Microscopic remaining oil was categorized on the basis of quantitative characterization parameters, such as shape factor, contact Ratio, Euler number etc. The remaining oil characteristics with different flow types were presented in different water displacement stages. Experimental results show that the remaining oil can be divided into five categories. They are, respectively membranous flow, droplet flow, columnar flow, multi-porous flow and clustered flow from hard-to-produce to easy-to-produce. The Relative Permeability of oil phase is represented by the macro-average Relative Permeability of all the above five flow regimes. Among them, clustered flow possesses strong producing capacity and high Relative Permeability, and the other four flow regimes have weaker producing capacity and lower Relative Permeability. Variation of number and average volume of five types remaining oil and several measurements of the ganglion size distribution have been performed in the literature. The nonlinear knee point on the Relative Permeability Ratio curve is intrinsically caused by the decreasing of volume and quantity fraction of clustered flow when water satuRation increases. This paper has studied the flowing law of microscopic remaining oil, explained the intrinsic mechanism for the appearance of an inflection point on the Relative Permeability Ratio curve and microscopic sweep phenomena, and also presented a new effective way of upscaling to a certain extent.

characteristic analysis and fractal model of the gas water Relative Permeability of coal under different confining pressures
Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2017Co-Authors: Xiaoyang Zhang, Caifang WuAbstract:Abstract Gas-water Relative Permeability is crucial to the evaluation of coal reservoirs by numerical simulation and to the dynamic prediction of flow rates. Gas-water Relative Permeability experiments using the unsteady-state method determined that the gas Permeability, liquid Permeability and gas Permeability under irreducible water conditions had a negative exponential relationship with the increase of the confining pressure. The gas-water Relative Permeability curves had significant differences under different confining pressures. With the increase of the confining pressure, the Relative Permeability of the water obviously decreased, whereas the Relative Permeability of the gas showed an increasing trend to some degree and the Relative Permeability Ratio krg/krw increased when the water satuRation was less than 80%. These results indicate that an increase of confining pressure has less influence on gas Relative Permeability than it has on water Relative Permeability. Based on the experimental data from mercury intrusion porosimetry and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, the fractal dimension was obtained after performing a compressibility correction of the mercury intrusion volume. The small fractal dimension found indicates that the pore-fracture system of coal has a strong self-similarity. An improved fractal model was proposed to fit the gas-water Permeability under different confining pressures, and the modeling results were well correlated with the experimental data of the unsteady-state method.

application and study on relationship between Relative Permeability Ratio and water satuRation curve
International Journal of Oil Gas and Coal Engineering, 2016Co-Authors: Li Jun, Kang Kai, Peng Xiaodong, Lu Yan, Jiang LifuAbstract:In the process of oil field development, the law of water cut is usually described by exponent model, but during the early water breakthrough stage and ultra-high water cut stage, Relative Permeability Ratio of oil to water (Kro/Krw) and water satuRation (Sw) is no longer linear relations in semilog coordinate, so it has an important influence on water cut increasing rate, theoretical production index, oil displacement efficiency, relationship between recovery and water cut etc. Based on relation curve character of Relative Permeability Ratio of oil to water (Kro/Krw) and water satuRation (Sw), this paper proposes a new function model in order to reduce prediction error, such as production index and water cut increasing rate. According to nonlinear properties of the model, Newton algorithm is supposed to be used for optimization solution. Finally, take Relative Permeability data of P Oilfield as an example to testify, and results show that fitting precision of the model is quite high and it possess nicer applicability. On this basis, the relationship between water cut and recovery, relationship between water cut increasing rate and recovery are derived. By comparing water cut and water cut increasing rate with recovery degree, it can be used to guide the development as the foundation of geology and reservoir of P Oilfield.
