  • the snake and the seraph sexual addiction and Religious Behaviour
    Counselling Psychology Quarterly, 2004
    Co-Authors: Thaddeus Birchard
    Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between sexual misconduct and Religious vocation. Drawing on clinical and ministerial experience the article suggests that most sexual misconduct among Religious officials is a combination of sexual addiction and Religious Behaviour acting as interconnected responses to narcissistic damage. It goes on to outline a reciprocal inter-locking cyclical pattern of Behaviour and suggests a treatment strategy that prioritizes four tasks: psycho-education, group work, family of origin exploration, and facilitating access to the components of a good quality of life.

Sociology of religion is a discipline which studies the Religious groups, the relationship between society and religion and the mutual effect and reaction appearing from this relation. During the study, it benefits from various theories and concepts. Each theory is not able to explain the relationship between society and religion and the Religious groups fully. However, every theory can catch some aspects of the phenomenon. The subject of this study is rational choice theory, which has been used in Religious studies for the last 30-40 years, and the concepts related with the theory. The theory, taken from Economy discipline, approaches the Religious Behaviours of individuals and groups from an ecomomic perpective and consists of fairly simple assumptions. Rational choice theory has been used to explain the economic aspect of Religious Behaviour of individuals and groups, benefiting from economic models. Rational choice theory tries to understand the Religious Behaviour of individuals from profit-cost perspective. It defines the pious as customer-consumer demanding concrete and spiritual service, and the cleric and the Religious institution as producers producing these demands. It names the relationship between these two (supply-demand) as Religious market. The things done and said in Religious market are considered Religious product. Different religions and groups compete in this Religious market and they try to maximize the profit that they gain. The Religious Behaviours of various societies have been studied from the perspective of rational choice theory of religion so far and positive results have been taken. • The role of Religious Behaviour in adolescent depressive and anxious symptomatology.
    Journal of adolescence, 2002
    Co-Authors: Ann M. Schapman, Heidi M. Inderbitzen-nolan
    Abstract:

Previous research, conducted primarily with adults, suggests that Religious Behaviour is associated with improved mental health. This study expanded extant literature to determine whether a similar relationship exists among adolescents. Participants completed the Religious Behaviour Questionnaire, the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), and the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale. Results indicated that more frequent Religious Behaviour and a greater desire to participate in Religious activities were associated with lower scores on the CDI. Clinical and educational implications of these findings are discussed.
