  • Catalytic cracking of soybean oil via a distillation process for Renewable Liquid Fuel.
Journal of Nanjing Forestry University, 2011
Co-Authors: Chen Jie, Jiang Jianchun, Xu Junming, Nie Xiaoan
    Abstract:

The catalytic cracking reactions of soybean oil have been studied using a self-assembled distillation apparatus, and the optimal technological conditions were obtained as follows: the distillation temperature 320—350 ℃,cracking temperature 480—500 ℃,and adding rate of soybean oil 35 g/h.The fraction distribution of product was modified by the basic catalyst such as Na2CO3 and distillation process. It was known from the analysis results of FTIR,GC-MS and SEC that the cracked products mainly consisted of alkanes, alkenes, aldehyde, and carboxylic acid.Furthermore, the cracked-oil had a low average molecular weight, and had similar physical and chemical properties comparing to those specified for petroleum-based Fuels. The properties of the cracked oil were measured as follows: density of 825 kg/m3,viscosity of 4.0 mm2/s,calorific value of 42 MJ/kg,freezing point of-9 ℃,and cold filter plugging point of-4 ℃.

  • production of Renewable Liquid Fuel by catalytic cracking of soybean oil
Chemistry and Industry of Forest Products, 2011
Co-Authors: Chen Jie, Jiang Jianchun, Xu Junming, Nie Xiaoan
    Abstract:

Three types of triglyceride cracking processes i.e.batch process, rotating cone process and distillation process was studied.Several kinds of catalysts were compared with each other. It was found that the optimum reaction conditions are as follows: mass fraction of catalyst 5%,distillation temperature 320-350 ℃,cracking temperature 460-480 ℃ and feed rate 35 g/h.The fraction distribution of product was modified using alkalinic catalyst such as Na2CO3 and distillation process. From the results of FT-IR,GC-MS and SEC measurements, the products were determined to be consisted of alkanes, alkenes and carboxylic acids with carbon chain below C24 and lower average molecular weight. The physical and chemical properties of products were also detected to be close to those of petroleum-based Fuels.

  • production of Renewable Liquid Fuel from triglycerides
Journal of Fuel Chemistry and Technology, 2010
Co-Authors: Xu Junming, Chen Jie, Jiang Jianchun, Lu Yanju
    Abstract:

Triglyceride is a kind of Renewable sources and widely exists in animals and plants. The cracking properties of triglyceride were analyzed through TG,DTG and DSC using soybean oil as material. The catalysis mechanism was changed with base catalyst. The results show that the Fuel properties of cracking product are improved because the base catalyst can promote decarboxylation reaction in cracking process. The temperature of cracking of soybean oil is about 400 ℃~500 ℃.The suitable cracking technology is flash pyrolysis in a trickle bed reactor.Several kinds of catalysts such as Al2O3,MCM-41 and Na2CO3 were compared.Under the optimum conditions, the obtained cracking oil shows low acid value(30 mg KOH/g).The cracking oil characterized by FT-IR and GC-MS shows the formation of olefins, paraffins. The heat value of pyrolytic oil is 43 MJ/kg and its dynamic viscosity and density is 2.6 mm2/s and 0.84 g/cm3,respectively.

  • overview of applications of biomass fast pyrolysis oil
    Energy & Fuels, 2004
    Co-Authors: And S Czernik, Anthony V. Bridgwater
    Abstract:

Fast pyrolysis of biomass is one of the most recent Renewable energy processes to have been introduced. It offers the advantages of a Liquid product, bio-oil that can be readily stored and transported. Bio-oil is a Renewable Liquid Fuel and can also be used for production of chemicals. Fast pyrolysis has now achieved a commercial success for production of chemicals and is being actively developed for producing Liquid Fuels. Bio-oils have been successfully tested in engines, turbines, and boilers, and have been upgraded to high-quality hydrocarbon Fuels, although at a presently unacceptable energetic and financial cost. The paper critically reviews scientific and technical developments in applications of bio-oil to date and concludes with some suggestions for research and strategic developments.
