  • enhanced rate adaptive Resource Allocation Scheme in downlink ofdma system
    Vehicular Technology Conference, 2006
    Co-Authors: Junhong Hui, Yongxing Zhou
    Abstract:

This paper proposes an enhanced rate adaptive Resource Allocation Scheme in an OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) downlink transmission system. It proves to be a great improvement on capacity over the latest available rate adaptive OFDMA methods, which seek to maximize the total system capacity subject to the total power and BER constraints. We introduce a priority based sequential scheduling criteria instead of random numerical ordering during the first time of subcarrier Allocation, which provides higher capacity by exploiting the multiuser diversity gains. Thus it can be seen as an efficient means to improve the system spectrum efficiency through adaptive Resource Allocation of OFDMA.

  • buffer aware Resource Allocation Scheme with energy efficiency and qos effectiveness in wireless body area networks
    IEEE Access, 2017
Co-Authors: Zhiqiang Liu, Bin Liu, Chang Wen Chen
    Abstract:

Wireless body area network (WBAN) has attracted more and more attention to automatically and intelligently sense the health data of one person for supporting various health applications in smart cities. In the energy-constrained and heterogeneous WBAN system, there are three main issues: 1) the dynamic link characteristics due to the time-varying postures and environments; 2) the high energy efficiency requirement with considering the limited sensor battery; and 3) the high quality-of-service (QoS) requirement due to the importance of health data. To provide long service with high quality, the Resource Allocation Scheme becomes indispensable with considering all these issues. In this paper, a mix-cost parameter is designed to evaluate the energy efficiency and QoS effectiveness, and a Resource Allocation problem is formulated to minimize the total mix-cost with optimizing the transmission rate, the transmission power, and the allocated time slots for each sensor. Then, a buffer-aware sensor evaluation method with low complexity is introduced to the Resource Allocation Scheme to evaluate the sensor state in real time and then decide when applying for the Resource re-Allocation by the hub for further improving both the short-term and the long-term QoS performance. Finally, a greedy sub-optimal Resource Allocation Scheme is designed to reduce the time complexity of the Resource Allocation Scheme. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimal buffer-aware Resource Allocation Scheme as well as the greedy sub-optimal Resource Allocation Scheme with low complexity.

  • buffer aware and qos effective Resource Allocation Scheme in wbans
International Conference on e-Health Networking Applications and Services, 2016
Co-Authors: Zhiqiang Liu, Bin Liu, Chang Wen Chen
    Abstract:

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) represents one of the most promising networks to provide health applications for improving the quality of life, such as ubiquitous e-Health services and real-time health monitoring. The Resource Allocation of an energy-constrained, heterogeneous WBAN is a critical issue that should consider both energy efficiency and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements with the dynamic link characteristics, especially when the limited Resource cannot satisfy the expected QoS requirements. In this paper, a buffer aware Energy-efficient and QoS-effective Resource Allocation Scheme is proposed in which the sensor queue buffer states, constraints of QoS metrics and the characteristics of dynamic links are considered. Specifically, a buffer aware sensor evaluation method is designed to dynamically evaluate the sensor state with considering the sensor buffer states for improving the system performance. We then formulate the Resource Allocation problem for optimizing the transmission power, the transmission rate and the allocated time slots for each sensor to minimize the sum mix-cost, which is defined to characterize the energy cost and QoS cost between attainable QoS support and QoS requirements. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the buffer aware sensor evaluation method and the proposed energy-efficient and QoS-effective Resource Allocation Scheme.

  • CCNC - A QoS-Aware and Fair Resource Allocation Scheme for WPANs
2009 6th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2009
    Co-Authors: R. Hekmat
    Abstract:

In this paper, we propose a new Resource Allocation Scheme for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs). The novelty of this Scheme is in its capability to combine, in a dynamic way, QoS with fairness in Resource Allocation. This makes our Scheme a suitable solution for supporting heterogeneous services in WPANs. In order to be QoS-aware we make use of preassigned service priorities. Further, in order to add fairness, our Scheme is capable of assigning higher medium access priorities to the backlogged traffic flows. Using OPNET, extensive simulations have been done to compare the performance of the proposed policy with two QoS-unaware and unfair scheduling algorithms: First-Come-First-Served (FCFS) and Directional Transmission Scheduling (DTS). Simulation results indicate that our proposal can substantially improve system performance in terms of the delay-based fairness and job failure ratio.

  • a fair qos aware Resource Allocation Scheme for multiradio multichannel networks
IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2013
Co-Authors: Yan Long, Miao Pan, Yuguang Fang, T F Wong
    Abstract:

In this paper, we study the problem of Resource Allocation in multiradio multichannel (MRMC) networks. Specifically, under the consideration of diverse quality-of-service (QoS) requirements, we propose a fair QoS-aware Resource-Allocation Scheme for MRMC networks. In this Scheme, channel Allocation, multipath routing, link scheduling, and radio assignment are jointly considered. The proposed Scheme is obtained by formulating the Resource-Allocation problem into a cross-layer network utility maximization (NUM) problem, in which Resources are allocated to services with proportional fairness. To avoid oscillation among optimal solutions due to the use of multipath routing, we transform the optimization program into an equivalent program by utilizing the proximal optimization algorithm. Then, we obtain the optimal solution of the latter by the decomposition method. Numerical results show that the proposed Scheme indeed achieves proportional fairness according to diverse QoS requirements while maximizing utility.
