measurements of the generalized electric and magnetic polarizabilities of the proton at low q2 using the virtual compton Scattering Reaction
Physical Review Letters, 2006Co-Authors: P Bourgeois, Y Sato, J Shaw, Ricardo Alarcon, Aron M Bernstein, W Bertozzi, T Botto, J R Calarco, F Casagrande, M O DistlerAbstract:The mean square polarizability radii of the proton have been measured for the first time in a virtual-Compton-Scattering experiment performed at the MIT-Bates out-of-plane Scattering facility. Response functions and polarizabilities obtained from a dispersion analysis of the data at Q{sup 2}=0.057 GeV{sup 2}/c{sup 2} are in agreement with O(p{sup 3}) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The data support the dominance of mesonic effects in the polarizabilities.

Generalized polarizabilities and the chiral structure of the nucleon
Nuclear Physics A, 1998Co-Authors: Thomas R. Hemmert, Barry R. Holstein, Germar Knöchlein, Stefan SchererAbstract:Abstract We discuss the virtual Compton Scattering Reaction e − p → e − pγ at low energies. We present results for the generalized polarizabilities of the nucleon obtained in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory at O ( p 3 ).

Resonances in C14 observed in the He4(10Be,α)Be10 Reaction
Physical Review C, 2014Co-Authors: M. Freer, N. L. Achouri, N. I. Ashwood, J. D. Malcolm, D. W. Bardayan, S. M. Brown, W. N. Catford, K. A. Chipps, J. Cizewski, N. CurtisAbstract:The α(Be10,α)Be10 resonant Scattering Reaction has been measured at nine Be10 beam energies from 25 to 48 MeV, scanning out resonances in C14 from excitation energies of 13 to 24 MeV. Angular distribution measurements were used to assign the spin and parity of 5− to resonances at Ex=18.82(2) and 19.67(2) MeV and 6+ at Ex=20.80(2) MeV. The data also strongly indicate a 3− resonance at 17.32(2) MeV. The systematic uncertainty on the excitation energies is 175 keV. An R-matrix analysis has been performed for the excitation energy range 16.5 to 22 MeV. The data are discussed in terms of cluster bands in C14.

Spectroscopy of $^{18}$Na: Bridging the two-proton radioactivity of $^{19}$Mg
Physics Letters B, 2012Co-Authors: M. Assié, F. De Oliveira Santos, N. L. Achouri, J. C. Angélique, C. Borcea, T. Davinson, F. De Grancey, J. Alcántara-núñez, T. Al Kalanee, R. BorceaAbstract:The unbound nucleus $^{18}$Na, the intermediate nucleus in the two-proton radioactivity of $^{19}$Mg, was studied by the measurement of the resonant elastic Scattering Reaction $^{17}$Ne(p,$^{17}$Ne)p performed at 4 A.MeV. Spectroscopic properties of the low-lying states were obtained in a R-matrix analysis of the excitation function. Using these new results, we show that the lifetime of the $^{19}$Mg radioactivity can be understood assuming a sequential emission of two protons via low energy tails of $^{18}$Na resonances.

Discovery of a new broad resonance in $^{19}$Ne: Implications for the destruction of the cosmic $\gamma$-ray emitter $^{18}$F
Physical Review Letters, 2009Co-Authors: J.c. Dalouzy, N. L. Achouri, M. Aliotta, C. Angulo, H. Benhabiles, C. Borcea, R. Borcea, P. Bourgault, A. Buta, A. CocAbstract:Six proton-emitting states in 19Ne were studied through the inelastic Scattering Reaction H(19Ne; p)19Ne*(p)18F. Their energies and widths were derived from the protons detected at zero degree, while proton-proton angular correlations between the detector at zero degree and a segmented annular detector were used to determine their spin value. Besides the known states, a new broad J = 1/2 resonance has been evidenced at Ex ≈ 7.9 MeV, ≈ 1:45 MeV above the proton emission threshold. By introducing this resonance, the 18F(p; alpha)15O destruction rate in novae is significantly enhanced. This reduces the chance to observe the cosmic gamma-ray emission of 18F from novae in space telescopes.

Study of $^{19}$Na at SPIRAL
2005Co-Authors: F. De Oliveira Santos, P. Himpe, M. Lewitowicz, N. Smirnova, N. L. Achouri, J. C. Angélique, L Axelsson, I Stefan, C. Angulo, D. BaiborodinAbstract:The excitation function for the elastic Scattering Reaction p($^{18}$Ne,p)$^{18}$Ne was measured with the first radioactive beam from the SPIRAL facility at the GANIL laboratory and with a solid cryogenic hydrogen target.
