  • Dry Gas Seals. Monitoring a Tandem Dry Gas Seal's Secondary Seal
Turbomachinery Laboratories Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, 2016
Co-Authors: Hosana Rich, Akalchuk Vladimi, Schmid Gle, Mccraw Jim
    Abstract:

TutorialTutorial 19D: Rotating equipment and instrument engineers working with dry gas Seals should attend this tutorial to increase their knowledge of methods for monitoring secondary Seals. Over the last several years a number of compressor manufactures have issued safety notices concerning the industries inability to properly detect secondary Seal Failures in a tandem dry gas Seal arrangement. When a secondary Seal Failure is undetected, the potential for an uncontrolled process gas release increases, leading to risks indicated in the safety notices issued. This tutorial will examine the methods of monitoring the secondary Seal in a tandem dry gas Seal arrangement and the means to detect a secondary Seal Failure. The information and diagrams in this tutorial do not provide detail design requirements for the total Seal monitoring system but only methods currently being used for monitoring the secondary Seal

  • Monitoring a Tandem Dry Gas Seal's Secondary Seal
    'Biophysical Society of Japan', 2014
Co-Authors: Schmid Gle, Akalchuk Vladimi, Hosanna Rich, Mccraw Jim

  • TBM RECOVERY AFTER SHAFT Seal FailureS
    Tunnels and Tunnelling International, 2003
    Co-Authors: Peter Town
    Abstract:

In this paper, the author describes two different shaft Seal Failure cases and how polyurethane resin grout was used to stabilize the situations, thus allowing for the early pumping of the shaft and recovery of the tunnel boring machines (TBMs). The first case involved an entering reception shaft that was located between a main road and a railway, while the second case involved an exiting launch shaft in marshy ground next to a major river. In both cases, polyurethane resin was injected and lead to successful recovery operations.

  • TBM recovery after shaft Seal Failures : Focus on TBMs
    T & T international, 2003
    Co-Authors: Peter Town
    Abstract:

Polyurethane resins can be strategically applied in the recovery of inundations, flooded shafts and similar disastrous situations below ground. In this article, Peter Town, managing director of Oxford Hydrotechnics, discusses two different shaft Seal Failure case histories and explores the methodology adopted in each situation.
