  • Container Security Device chain network for safe railway transportation
International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing Networking and Communications, 2012
Co-Authors: Jeonghyun Kim, Sungryul Kim, Younghwan Yoo
    Abstract:

The railway is one of the most important facilities for freight logistics. This paper suggests the use of the container Security Devices (CSDs), which has been adopted for the marine transportation so far, to enhance the Security of railway freight transportation. The proposed protocol, CSD Chain Network Protocol (CCNP), was designed for a chain-form network of CSDs, each of which is attached to a container. In CCNP, unauthorized access to freight is reliably reported to the reader deployed at the locomotive. CCNP also cares about the fairness in energy consumption. In a usual chain network, a tag closer to the reader consumes more energy since it ought to forward packets coming from rear tags as well. However, in CCNP, the tag energy consumption for packet forwarding is always the same regardless of the position in a chain owing to an efficient data fusion scheme. In our simulation using QualNet, CCNP reduces the number of disconnections between tags by 59.5% as compared to general chain networks. The energy consumption also decreases by 91.3% of other networks not using an aggregation method.

  • Performance evaluation of 2.45GHz chip antenna for container Security Device(ConTracer)
    2011
Co-Authors: Hyung Rim Choi, Jung Rock Shon, Joong Jo Shin, Sung Pill Choi, Young Sik Moon
    Abstract:

This paper proposes 2.45GHz antenna of chip type that can be applied to actual container Security Devices. This antenna configuration has tuning capability when it is applied to practical container Security Devices. The minimization of the antenna was realized by using a helical and meander structure that has a loop antenna composed of vias and lines on FR-4 PCB of er 4.7. The antenna characteristic was analyzed depending on tuning components, the size of supporting dielectric portion and its permittivity by using the commercial software HFSS 3-D EM simulator.

  • pilot case for container Security Device csd based on active rfid
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, 2010
Co-Authors: Young Sik Moon, Joong Jo Shin, Jung Rock Shon, Sung Pill Choi, Hyung Rim Choi
    Abstract:

CSD is Active RFID based Container Security Device which is proposed by the U.S Department of Home Security. It is mounted inside the container to sense opening of the container door. ConTracer is the CSD which is developed in this research whose major features are sensing door opening status as well as history inquiring on internal environment and shock to the container by mounting the temperature/ humidity/ shock sensors. Moreover, its RFID frequency bandwidth uses 433MHz and 2.4GHz to correspond actively to the frequency used by different countries. This paper introduces the development trend of CSD, compares the ConTracer which is developed thru this research and other company"s CSD, and introduces CSD System which is designed and established using ConTracer. Finally, the implemented CSD System is verified by applying the demonstration service to container distribution between Korea and China.

  • optical Security Device for document protection using plasmon resonant transmission through a thin corrugated metallic film embedded in a plastic foil
Journal of the European Optical Society: Rapid Publications, 2013
Co-Authors: J Sauvagevincent, C. Veillas, Svetlen Tonchev, Stephanie Reynaud, Yves Jourlin
    Abstract:

The well known resonant or extraordinary transmission through an undulated metallic thin film embedded in a dielectric layer using the Plasmon modes excitation under normal incidence is industrially exploited for document protection applications. While the effect is very spectrally sensitive to the incidence angle in collinear incidence since it leads to a transmission peak separation in two peaks, it is very tolerant in conical incidence (incidence angle in the plan normal to the grating direction). This property is used to create color transmission effects by playing with the sample rotation in the two directions to enhance the contrast of such effect. Theoretical approach, modeling and experimental demonstration in the visible range on a flexible plastic foil are presented for a see-through window implemented in document Security.

  • Industrial fabrication of an optical Security Device for document protection using plasmon resonant transmission through a thin corrugated metallic film embedded on a plastic foil
    Micro-Optics 2012, 2012
Co-Authors: Jean Sauvage-vincent, Yves Jourlin, Svetlen Tonchev, C. Veillas, Pedri Claude, Olivier Parriaux
    Abstract:

Known since a long time in polymer banknotes and presented in the few years in paper banknotes, the principle of windowed documents has been currently extended to ID documents. We present an innovative solution which combines resonant transmission and Zero Order Device technologies and which is dedicated to improve windows in terms of the overt Security level. With this R&D program, Hologram Industries targeted to obtain an overt visual Security Device that should be readily checked in transmission in the same manner as the established paper watermark. The proposed solution is based on the propagation of resonant modes in a thin continuous corrugated metallic layer embedded (encapsulated) between two dielectric layers of near equal refractive index. The mode of most interest is the Long Range Plasmon Mode. The coupling condition to the Long Range Mode is principally related to the corrugation, the metal layer thickness and the index of the two dielectric layers. If the condition of the mode excitation through the grating is fulfilled, a predetermined wavelength will be coupled to the Long Range Plasmon Mode. This mode will propagate at each metal/dielectric interface with a low loss and will concentrate the electric field inside the metal layer. This effect of coupling enables the transmission of a peak at this wavelength through the metallic layer. It defines the so called "extraordinary resonant transmission".
