    Abstract:

    In this paper, oxygen permeable membrane used in membrane reactor for Selective Oxidation of alkanes will be discussed in detail. The recent developments for the membrane materials will be presented, and the strategy for the selection of the membrane materials will be outlined. The main applications of oxygen permeable membrane in Selective Oxidation of light alkanes will be summarized, which includes partial Oxidation of methane (POM) to syngas and partial Oxidation of heptane (POH) to produce H2, oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) to C2, oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODE) to ethylene and oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODP) to propylene. Achievements for the membrane material developments and Selective Oxidation of light alkanes in membrane reactor in our group are highlighted.

  • AgBiVMo oxide catalytic membrane for Selective Oxidation of propane to acrolein

    Abstract:

    Abstract A metal ions (Ag, Bi, V, Mo) modified sol–gel method was used to prepare a mesoporous Ag0.01Bi0.85V0.54Mo0.45O4 catalytic membrane which was used in the Selective Oxidation of propane to acrolein. By optimizing the preparation parameters, a thin and perfect catalytically active membrane was successfully prepared. SEM results showed that the membrane thickness is ∼5 μm. XRD results revealed that Ag0.01Bi0.85V0.54Mo0.45O4 with a Scheelite structure, which is catalytically active for the Selective Oxidation of propane to acrolein, was formed in the catalytic membrane only when AgBiVMoO concentrations were higher than 40%. Catalytic reaction results demonstrated that the Selective Oxidation of propane could be controlled to a certain degree, such as to acrolein, in the catalytic membrane reactor (CMR) compared to the fixed bed reactor (FBR). For example, a selectivity of 54.85% for acrolein in the liquid phase was obtained in the CMR, while only 8.31% was achieved in the FBR.

    Abstract:

    Oxidation catalysis not only plays a crucial role in the current chemical industry for the production of key intermediates such as alcohols, epoxides, aldehydes, ketones and organic acids, but also will contribute to the establishment of novel green and sustainable chemical processes. This review is devoted to dealing with Selective Oxidation reactions, which are important from the viewpoint of green and sustainable chemistry and still remain challenging. Actually, some well-known highly challenging chemical reactions involve Selective Oxidation reactions, such as the Selective Oxidation of methane by oxygen. On the other hand some important Oxidation reactions, such as the aerobic Oxidation of alcohols in the liquid phase and the preferential Oxidation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen, have attracted much attention in recent years because of their high significance in green or energy chemistry. This article summarizes recent advances in the development of new catalytic materials or novel catalytic systems for these challenging Oxidation reactions. A deep scientific understanding of the mechanisms, active species and active structures for these systems are also discussed. Furthermore, connections among these distinct catalytic Oxidation systems are highlighted, to gain insight for the breakthrough in rational design of efficient catalytic systems for challenging Oxidation reactions.
