This web service is based on the Linda programming model. Linda is a coordination language for parallel and distributed processing, providing a communication mechanism based on a logically Shared Memory Space. The original Linda model has been extended through the provision of a programmable mechanism, providing additional flexibility and improved performance. The implementation of the web service is discussed, together with the details of the programmable matching mechanism. Some results from the implementation of a location-based mobile application, using the tuple Space web service are presented, demonstrating the benefits of our system.

a hybrid Shared Memory Space division architecture for large fast packet switches
International Conference on Communications, 1992Co-Authors: F M Chiussi, Fouad A TobagiAbstract:The authors explore the use of components of different architectural types to build a large fast packet switch. They introduce a hybrid architecture, referred to as the Memory/Space-division/Memory (MSM) switching fabric, which integrates Shared-Memory and Space-division switching techniques and makes it possible to build an efficient self-routing switch capable of serving several hundred users. This architecture has its origin in the tandem banyan switching fabric (TBSF). The TBSF and the limitations uncovered in each implementation are discussed. The basic configuration of the MSM and methods used to solve the shortcomings encountered in the TBSF are outlined. This architecture presents a simple structure, achieves high throughput under a wide variety of traffic conditions, and is easily expandable to support additional functionalities, such as burst switching, hybrid circuit/packet switching operation, and multicasting. >

VINS- Shared Memory Space for Definition of Interactive Techniques
2013Co-Authors: Dimitar Valkov, Er Giesler, Klaus HinrichsAbstract:Traditionally, interaction techniques for virtual reality applications are implemented in a proprietary way on specific target platforms, e. g., requiring specific hardware, physics or rendering libraries, which hinders reusability and portability. Even though abstraction layers for hardware devices are provided by numerous virtual reality libraries, they are usually tightly bound to a particular rendering environment and hardware configuration. In this paper we introduce VINS (Virtual Interactive NameSpace) a seamless distributed Memory Space, which provides a hierarchical structure to support reusable design of interactive techniques. With VINS an interaction metaphor, whether it is implemented as function or class in the main application thread, uses its own thread or runs as its own process on another computer, can be transferred from one application to another without modifications. We describe the underlying concepts and present examples on how to integrate VINS with different frameworks or already implemented interactive techniques
