    Abstract:

    Abstract In this advanced regular Simplex Method, new relative coefficients are introduced to improve the adaptability of the Simplex to high-dimensional spaces and variable initial Simplex sizes. A new rotation procedure is proposed to approach the gradient direction. The Method maintains the regularity of the Simplex throughout the optimization by using new and modified techniques to give high efficiency. The Method is compared with the basic Simplex Method of Spendley and the modified Simplex Method of Nelder and Mead. The results show that the new Method is more efficient and more adaptable to initial Simplex size and higher-dimensional space, but less adaptable to complex response surfaces, than the other two Methods.

The evaluations showed that both the efficiency and the convergence ability of the Simplex Method will probably be enhanced by implementing a degeneracy constraint.

    Different modifications concerning the efficiency and the convergence ability of the modified Simplex Method were evaluated for nine test functions. The speed, reliability and convergence ability of the Simplex Method was enhanced by simplifying the degeneracy control and using a correction of the vertices located outside a variable boundary back to the boundary.
