Techniques and performance of the advanced regular Simplex Method
Analytica Chimica Acta, 1991Co-Authors: Ming Hui ShaoAbstract:Abstract In this advanced regular Simplex Method, new relative coefficients are introduced to improve the adaptability of the Simplex to high-dimensional spaces and variable initial Simplex sizes. A new rotation procedure is proposed to approach the gradient direction. The Method maintains the regularity of the Simplex throughout the optimization by using new and modified techniques to give high efficiency. The Method is compared with the basic Simplex Method of Spendley and the modified Simplex Method of Nelder and Mead. The results show that the new Method is more efficient and more adaptable to initial Simplex size and higher-dimensional space, but less adaptable to complex response surfaces, than the other two Methods.

effect of dimensionality on the nelder mead Simplex Method
Optimization Methods & Software, 2006Co-Authors: Lixing Han, Michael NeumannAbstract:The effect of dimensionality on the widely used Nelder–Mead Simplex Method for unconstrained optimization is investigated. It is shown that by using the quadratic function f(x)=x T x, the Nelder–Mead Simplex Method deteriorates as the dimension increases.

The Simplex Method
International Series in Operations Research & Management Science, 2020Co-Authors: Robert J VanderbeiAbstract:In this chapter we present the Simplex Method as it applies to linear programming problems in standard form.
-
the Simplex Method in matrix notation
2014Co-Authors: Robert J VanderbeiAbstract:So far, we have avoided using matrix notation to present linear programming problems and the Simplex Method. In this chapter, we shall recast everything into matrix notation. At the same time, we will emphasize the close relations between the primal and the dual problems.

Efficiency of the Simplex Method
International Series in Operations Research & Management Science, 2014Co-Authors: Robert J VanderbeiAbstract:In the previous chapter, we saw that the Simplex Method (with appropriate pivoting rules to guarantee no cycling) will solve any linear programming problem for which an optimal solution exists. In this chapter, we investigate just how fast it will solve a problem of a given size.

Dual Simplex Method
Springer Optimization and Its Applications, 2019Co-Authors: Asoke Kumar Bhunia, Laxminarayan Sahoo, Ali Akbar ShaikhAbstract:The objective of this chapter is to discuss an advanced technique, called the dual Simplex Method, for solving linear programming problems with ≥ type constraints.

Design and evaluation of an effective modified Simplex Method
Analytica Chimica Acta, 1999Co-Authors: Peter Hedlund, Anders GustavssonAbstract:Different modifications concerning the efficiency and the convergence ability of the modified Simplex Method were evaluated for four test functions. The evaluations showed that both the efficiency and the convergence ability of the Simplex Method will probably be enhanced by implementing a degeneracy constraint.

Design and evaluation of an improved Simplex Method
Analytica Chimica Acta, 1998Co-Authors: Peter Hedlund, Anders GustavssonAbstract:Different modifications concerning the efficiency and the convergence ability of the modified Simplex Method were evaluated for nine test functions. The speed, reliability and convergence ability of the Simplex Method was enhanced by simplifying the degeneracy control and using a correction of the vertices located outside a variable boundary back to the boundary.
