Conclusion:SBE is the best method for extracting Sophora flavescens.

Journal of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 2010Co-Authors: Han ChunAbstract:Objective:To optimize the best alcohol precipitating concentration of semi-bionic extraction (SBE) for Sophora flavescens.Methods:Taking matrine,oxymatrine,total alkaloids,total area of HPLC and dry extract as indexes,the result was comprehensive evaluated to optimize alcohol precipitating concentration of SBE solution for Sophora flavescens between 30%~80% alcohol concentration.Results:The comprehensive evaluation value is the max when alcohol concentration is 80%.Conclusion:The best alcohol precipitating concentration of SBE for Sophora flavescens is 80%.

tyrosinase inhibitory prenylated flavonoids from Sophora flavescens
Biological & Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2003Co-Authors: Soo Jin Kim, Sam-sik Kang, Kun-ho Son, Hyun Wook Chang, Hyun-pyo KimAbstract:For the purpose of the development of a skin-whitening agent, Sophora flavescens was evaluated for tyrosinase inhibitory activity and its active principles were identified following activity-guided isolation. The ethanol extract and dichloromethane fraction from S. flavescens showed significant inhibition of mushroom tyrosinase. From the dichloromethane fraction, three known prenylated flavonoids, Sophoraflavanone G, kuraridin, and kurarinone, were isolated. Compared with kojic acid (IC50=20.5 μM), these compounds possessed more potent tyrosinase inhibitory activity. The IC50 values were 6.6, 0.6, and 6.2 μM for Sophoraflavanone G, kuraridin, and kurarinone, respectively.
