SpeckTackle is cross-browser compatible and easy to integrate into existing Resources, as we demonstrate for the MetaboLights database. Its default chart types cover common visualisation tasks following the de facto ‘look and feel’ standards for spectra visualisation. Conclusions SpeckTackle is released under GNU LGPL to encourage uptake and reuse within the community. The latest version of the library including examples and documentation on how to use and extend the library with additional chart types is available online in its public repository.

Spectrum Leasing via Cooperation With Multiple Primary Users
IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2012Co-Authors: Tariq Elkourdi, Osvaldo SimeoneAbstract:Within the paradigm of spectrum leasing via cooperation, primary (licensed) nodes can lease some of the owned Spectral Resources to secondary (unlicensed) users in exchange for cooperation. Secondary users, in turn, set a minimal quality-of-service (QoS) requirement on the spectrum leased as a precondition for cooperation. Previous work assumed that a single primary user makes spectrum-leasing decisions in the presence of possibly multiple secondary users. In this paper, the analysis is extended to accommodate multiple primary users by adopting the framework of generalized Nash equilibrium (GNE) problems. Accordingly, multiple primary users, each owning its own Spectral Resource, compete for the cooperation of the available secondary users under a shared constraint on all spectrum-leasing decisions set by the secondary QoS requirements. A general formulation of the problem is given, and solutions are proposed with different signaling requirements among the primary users. Then, application of the framework is discussed for a practical example that includes communication over fading channels with retransmissions. Numerical results bring insight into the advantages of spectrum leasing and of the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

Stability analysis of a cognitive multiple access channel with primary QoS constraints

According to the commons model of cognitive radio, the secondary nodes are required to guarantee quality-of-service (QoS) constraints on the primary activity. Assuming a collision channel model, the stability region of the arrival rates at the secondary queues is investigated for given primary throughput and QoS constraints defined in terms of average delay of primary packets. Inner and outer bounds on the stability region are derived. The analysis is carried out at first for the case M = 2 and then generalized for any number of secondary nodes (M > 2), and is based on the concept of dominant systems. The results shed light on the impact of detection errors at the secondary nodes and of different levels of QoS requirements of the primary user to the achievable (stability) rate region of the secondary nodes. Numerical results suggest that the derived inner bound is a tight approximation of the real stability region.

Towards a joint optimization of scheduling and beamforning for MIMO downlink

Joint optimization of channel assignment (scheduling) and beamforming in such a scenario is an open problem. Assuming zero-focing linear beamforming at the base station, this paper addresses this task by investigating a novel greedy solution that approximately maximizes the sum-rate. Performance of the proposed method is studied through numerical simulation and compared with known solutions based on combinatorial search.

Stability analysis of the cognitive interference channel

In accordance to the cognitive radio principle, whereby the activity of the secondary link should not interfere with the performance of the primary, the unlicensed transmitter accesses the channel only when sensed idle. In this paper, the maximum stable throughput of the cognitive link (in packets/slot) is derived for a fixed throughput selected by the primary link by assuming: 1) sensing errors due to fading at the secondary link; 2) power allocation at the secondary transmitter based on long-term measurements.
