Single-frequency oscillation of thin-disk lasers due to phase-matched pumping.
Optics express, 2017Co-Authors: Christian Vorholt, Ulrich WittrockAbstract:We present a novel pump concept that should lead to single-frequency operation of thin-disk lasers without the need for etalons or other spectral filters. The single-frequency operation is due to matching the Standing Wave Pattern of partially coherent pump light to the Standing Wave Pattern of the laser light inside the disk. The output power and the optical efficiency of our novel pump concept are compared with conventional pumping. The feasibility of our pump concept was shown in previous experiments.

Wavelength Control by Angle-Tuning of the Laser Radiation in an Intra-Cavity Pumped Yb:YAG Thin-Disk Laser
Advanced Solid State Lasers, 2015Co-Authors: Christian Vorholt, Ulrich WittrockAbstract:In an intra-cavity pumped thin-disk laser the pump radiation forms a Standing Wave Pattern inside the intra-cavity pumped disk. We demonstrate experimentally that the grating period of the Standing Wave Pattern of the pump radiation can control the laser Wavelength.

Scattering of the S1-surface state electron by an isolated adatom at Si(1 1 1)√3×√3-Ag surface
Physica E: Low-dimensional Systems and Nanostructures, 2007Co-Authors: Satoshi Minamoto, Yurika Ogawa, Yoshinori Sano, Hiroyuki HirayamaAbstract:Abstract We studied the scattering of the S 1 surface state electrons of two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) by an isolated adatom at the Si(1 1 1) √ 3 × √ 3 -Ag surface. The interference between the incident and scattered electrons caused a Standing Wave Pattern around the adatom. It was successfully observed in scanning tunneling microscope (STM) based d I / d V images at room temperature . In the analysis of the Standing Wave Pattern, we numerically confirmed that the S-Wave approximation and usage of the asymptotic form of the Bessel function are valid. This enabled us to deduce an analytical equation to fit the experimentally observed Standing Wave Pattern to estimate the scattering potential. The fitting was satisfactory and gave a scattering potential and a surface electron coherent length of ∼ 6.5 eV and ∼ 15 nm at room temperature .

multi stable operation of a semiconductor ring laser due to spatial hole burning
IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 2019Co-Authors: D Lenstra, Theodorus T M Van Schaijk, E A J M BenteAbstract:We have theoretically analyzed multi-stability of a symmetric ring laser operating in one single longitudinal mode in the presence of coherent back scattering and inversion-grating-induced mutual coupling of the clockwise and counter-clockwise modes. Our model takes into account the inversion grating created by the Standing-Wave Pattern of the interfering counter-propagating fields and avoids the frequently used ad-hoc introduction of cross and self-saturation coefficients. Our study confirms that linear coupling due to Waveguide irregularities or weak interface reflections leads to an effective pump strength below which the clock and anti-clock wise modes are symmetrically coupled whereas above which the grating-induced coupling leads to multi-stability.

Modification of electron density in surface states: scanning tunnelling microscopy observation of Standing Waves on Pd overlayers
Nanotechnology, 2002Co-Authors: Yukio Hasegawa, Takayuki Suzuki, M Ono, Emiko Ishikawa, Atsushi Kamoshida, N. Matsuura, Toyoaki EguchiAbstract:Modification of electron density in the surface states of Au(111) and Cu(111) surfaces by Pd deposition is demonstrated. Using a low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscope, electronic Standing Wave Patterns are observed on a monolayer-high Pd layer whose Wavelength is longer than that of the substrates. The observation indicates an upward shift of the energy level of the surface states and reduced electron density in the states on the overlayer. A Standing Wave Pattern depending on magnetic field was observed around an impurity atom on the Au(111) surface.
