Introduction to the Basic Technology of Stealth Aircraft: Part 2—Illumination by the Enemy (Active Considerations)
Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1991Co-Authors: D. HoweAbstract:One of the most significant considerations of Stealth technology is the technique used to reduce the probability of detection of an Aircraft by radar. This paper is concerned with the nature of the various contributions to the radar cross section, and the means by which their effect may be reduced. A survey of the impact of Stealth technology on some specific designs is included, from which the conclusion is drawn that the achievement of good Stealth characteristics demands attention to both the overall configuration and detail design.

Study and Analysis of Bi-Static Radar Cross Section of a Stealth Aircraft
2018 3rd International Conference for Convergence in Technology (I2CT), 2018Co-Authors: Rezwan Ashraf, Syeda Tahrin Tabassum, Ragib Tahmid, Mohammed Hossam-e-haiderAbstract:F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter Jet is considered as the world's first true ‘Stealth’ Aircraft and its considerably low Radar Cross Section (RCS) has been measured in this paper. RCS is an important parameter for radar that improvises on the detectability the target accurately. Varying two of the most important parameters of RCS such as frequency of the radar transceiver and aspect angle, the best outputs are recorded as the results. Using COMSOL Multiphysics software a virtual chamber has been created and the CAD model of F-117A is applied in it. With a planar electric field as the incident radar signal, the RCS has been recorded. In this paper, the bi-static RCS calculation method is considered for simulation. The results clearly depicted that better RCS can be obtained at the upper order frequency of S band wave range (above 3.5 GHz) and at some specific aspect angles the results exhibit higher detectability.

RCS is an important parameter for radar to detect the target accurately. Two of the most important parameters of RCS such as frequency of the radar transceiver and the aspect angle are varied and the best outcome is recorded as the result. Using COMSOL Multiphysics software a virtual air field has been created and the CAD model of F – 117 is applied in it. With a planar electric field as the incident radar signal of a distant transmitter, the RCS has been measured for the target object. This result clearly depicted that better RCS can be obtained at the upper order frequency of S band wave range (above 3.5 GHz) and at some specific aspect angles it exhibits higher detectability.

Impact of cooperative jamming of dual Stealth Aircraft formation on detection performance of monopulse radar
AIP Advances, 2020Co-Authors: Lei Bao, Peng Chen, Meng XiaoAbstract:To effectively test the detection performance of the monopulse radar under cooperative jamming of dual Stealth Aircraft formation, a blinking jamming model based on the interval of time-varying dual-Aircraft formation is established for the first time in this study. By geometric modeling of the blinking jamming mode of the dual-Aircraft formation, the authors solved the equivalent time-varying dynamic radar cross section of the penetration operation of the dual-Aircraft formation; then, by taking the signal-to-interference ratio of the Aircraft fuselage target echo in the actual formation as a parametric variable, we derived the equations for instantaneous detection distance, instantaneous detection probability, and cumulative detection probability of the monopulse radar in the formation projectile, and these equations were applicable to calculation under the actual jamming mode of dual-Aircraft formation. Through simulation, the authors concluded for the first time that as the supersonic endurance speed increased, releasing jamming could reduce the radar detection probability considerably by more than 60%, while releasing projectiles could increase the formation’s risk of being detected by the radar by 30.37%. Thus, to effectively reduce the stability of the radar’s detection and tracking performance, the jamming power of the dual Stealth Aircraft formation should be no smaller than 0.5 kW and the signal gain of the formation should be no less than 20 dB.

The influence of dual Stealth Aircraft formation cooperating with aerial bombing on the performance of monopulse radar
2020 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education (ICAIE), 2020Co-Authors: Lei Bao, Meng Xiao, Peng Chen, Juan BaiAbstract:In view of the problem of how to effectively compare and analyze the influence of angle tracking error of monopulse radar caused by the cooperative aerial bombing of dual Stealth Aircraft, a dynamic trajectory model of cooperative aerial bombing of dual Stealth Aircraft in level flight is established for the first time, and the acquisition method of dynamic RCS under the aerial bombing of dual Aircraft is proposed. By using the time-varying dynamic signal-to-noise ratio as a parameter variable, a single pulse radar angle tracking error solution model is established, which is suitable for the Stealth Aircraft dual Aircraft formation. This paper analyzes the influence of cooperative aerial dropping of dual Stealth Aircraft formation on the angle tracking error performance of monopulse radar, and concludes for the first time that the angle tracking error of monopulse radar will be reduced when there is no interference in the air bombing of two planes.

The influence of the navigation direction of the dual Stealth Aircraft formation on the performance of monopulse radar
2020 3rd International Conference on Electron Device and Mechanical Engineering (ICEDME), 2020Co-Authors: Lei Bao, Meng Xiao, Peng Chen, Yi-bo Liu, Rui-dong WangAbstract:Aiming at the problem of how to effectively compare and analyze the influence of the angle tracking error of monopulse radar caused by the difference of the dual Stealth Aircraft formation in the formation navigation direction, the dynamic track model of the dual Stealth Aircraft in different navigation directions is established for the first time, and the acquisition method of the dynamic RCS of the formation under different navigation directions is put forward. Using the time-varying dynamic signal-to-noise ratio of the dual Stealth Aircraft in different flight directions as parameters, the monopulse radar angle tracking error solving model suitable for the cooperative flight of dual Stealth Aircraft is established. This paper analyzes the influence of the difference of the dual Aircrafts’ heading direction on the angle tracking error performance of monopulse radar. It is the first time to conclude that the angle tracking error of monopulse radar will increase obviously with the increase of the heading angle of dual Stealth Aircraft when there is no interference.

Time-varying Target Characteristic Analysis of Dual Stealth Aircraft Formation
Proceedings of the 2019 3rd High Performance Computing and Cluster Technologies Conference, 2019Co-Authors: Lei Bao, Chun-yang Wang, Juan Bai, Sheng-jun Wei, Ming TanAbstract:Based on the research background of target formation characteristics of dual Stealth Aircraft, how to effectively compare and analyze the actual change characteristics of target formation RCS under different formation flying modes in penetration operation is discussed. The model of two-plane horizontal flight path, two-plane hovering track and two-plane formation infiltration maneuvering track are proposed. Based on the model, the attitude sensitivity of dual Stealth Aircraft formation is analyzed firstly, and then the line-of-sight attitude angle of dual Stealth Aircraft formation is calculated. Based on the static RCS data of dual Stealth Aircraft in the whole airspace, the time-varying dynamic RCS sequence is simulated. The simulation results show that the real-time RCS sequence distribution of the two-Aircraft formation is more suitable than that of the single-Aircraft formation at 150 meters interval when compared with the real-time RCS sequence of the single Stealth Aircraft under three different track attitudes, and the formation has less influence on the Stealth performance.
