A Review on Stochastic Multi-symplectic Methods for Stochastic Maxwell Equations
Communications on Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2019Co-Authors: Liying Zhang, Chuchu Chen, Jialin HongAbstract:Stochastic multi-symplectic methods are a class of numerical methods preserving the discrete stochastic multi-symplectic conservation law. These methods have the remarkable superiority to conventional numerical methods when applied to stochastic Hamiltonian partial differential equations (PDEs), such as long-time behavior, geometric structure preserving, and physical properties preserving. Stochastic Maxwell equations driven by either additive noise or multiplicative noise are a system of stochastic Hamiltonian PDEs intrinsically, which play an important role in fields such as stochastic electromagnetism and statistical radiophysics. Thereby, the construction and the analysis of various numerical methods for stochastic Maxwell equations which inherit the stochastic multi-symplecticity, the evolution laws of energy and divergence of the original system are an important and promising subject. The first stochastic multi-symplectic method is designed and analyzed to stochastic Maxwell equations by Hong et al. (A stochastic multi-symplectic scheme for stochastic Maxwell equations with additive noise. J. Comput. Phys. 268:255–268, 2014). Subsequently, there have been developed various stochastic multi-symplectic methods to solve stochastic Maxwell equations. In this paper, we make a review on these stochastic multi-symplectic methods for solving stochastic Maxwell equations driven by a stochastic process. Meanwhile, the theoretical results of well-posedness and conservation laws of the stochastic Maxwell equations are included.

a stochastic multi symplectic scheme for stochastic maxwell equations with additive noise
Journal of Computational Physics, 2014Co-Authors: Jialin Hong, Lihai Ji, Liying ZhangAbstract:Abstract In this paper we investigate a stochastic multi-symplectic method for stochastic Maxwell equations with additive noise. Based on the stochastic version of variational principle, we find a way to obtain the stochastic multi-symplectic structure of three-dimensional (3-D) stochastic Maxwell equations with additive noise. We propose a stochastic multi-symplectic scheme and show that it preserves the stochastic multi-symplectic conservation law and the local and global stochastic energy dissipative properties, which the equations themselves possess. Numerical experiments are performed to verify the numerical behaviors of the stochastic multi-symplectic scheme.

horizontal flows and manifold Stochastics in geometric deep learning
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2020Co-Authors: Stefan Sommer, Alexander M BronsteinAbstract:We introduce two constructions in geometric deep learning for 1) transporting orientation-dependent convolutional filters over a manifold in a continuous way and thereby defining a convolution operator that naturally incorporates the rotational effect of holonomy; and 2) allowing efficient evaluation of manifold convolution layers by sampling manifold valued random variables that center around a weighted Brownian motion maximum likelihood mean. Both methods are inspired by Stochastics on manifolds and geometric statistics, and provide examples of how stochastic methods -- here horizontal frame bundle flows and non-linear bridge sampling schemes, can be used in geometric deep learning. We outline the theoretical foundation of the two methods, discuss their relation to Euclidean deep networks and existing methodology in geometric deep learning, and establish important properties of the proposed constructions.
